5th round #153 Player:Steve Parker Pos. :3B Class :Jr. B-T :L-R HT:6-2 WT:195 College:Brigham Young Hometown: American Fork, Utah B’date:9/3/1987 BA: 5 153 Stephen Parker 3B Brigham Young Utah The first player likely to be selected out of the Beehive State is Brigham Young third baseman Steve Parker, who drew glowing praise from coaches and scouts. BYU recruiting coordinator Ryan Roberts said he likes Parker's chance to hit in the big leagues more than any other player he's coached in his 12 years in the business. The numbers back up the rave reviews. In 205 at-bats, Parker hit .361/.465/.595 with 13 doubles and nine home runs. He shows good pitch recognition and strong wrists. He can drive the ball the other way with authority and is short to the ball with a swing that spends a lot of time in the strike zone. Parker has worked hard to improve his defense at third base, cutting his errors in half this season. He's still likely to move off the position, perhaps to second base, but even if he goes to first base he is a pure enough hitter to warrant a Mark Grace comparison from one scout. pgcrosschecker: 153. Steve Parker 3B Jr. L-R 6-2 195 Brigham Young American Fork, Utah Never drafted 9/3/1987 SCOUTING PROFILE: With a short, quick, compact stroke and the ability to drive balls to all fields, Parker has one of the sweetest swings around and is the favorite to be the first player drafted in Utah on the basis of his one exemplary tool. His hands and wrist action, in particular, stand out with scouts. The ball jumps off his bat and he has good loft power to the pull-side, but his pure hitting skills trump his power potential. He has put up solid, if unspectacular numbers over the last two years, hitting .340-10-42 as a sophomore and .361-9-34 as a junior. His infield actions are adequate and he’s done a much better job this year of cutting his errors and making all the routine plays, but his arm strength is fringy-average by third-base standards, so a move to second base (or even left field or first base) could be in the works at the next level. He may profile better there anyway with the bat if his power doesn’t evolve.—ALLAN SIMPSON http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/P/Steve-Parker-2.shtml age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg FLD% 2007 BYU 19 NCAA 196 68 13 4 6 6 4 35 52 .347 .464 .546 2008 BYU 20 NCAA 215 73 15 3 10 4 0 41 52 .340 .454 .577 2009 BYU 21 NCAA 205 74 13 4 9 6 2 39 46 .361 .465 .595 .899 http://www.byucougars.com/Profile.jsp?ID=2799 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 122.117.152.63
