7th round #213 Player:Ian Krol Pos. :LHP Class :Sr. B-T :L-L HT:6-1 WT:180 High School:Neuqua Valley Hometown: Naperville, Ill. Commitment:Arizona B’date:5-9-91 BA: 7 213 Ian Krol LHP Nequa Valley HS, Naperville, Ill. Ill. Krol entered the year as the top-rated prospect in Illinois but never threw a pitch for Neuqua Valley High. He was suspended for the entire season in March after his second violation of the school's athletic code of conduct. He was found in the presence of alcohol when police pulled over the driver of a car Krol was riding in for suspicion of driving under the influence. After performing well on the showcase circuit last summer, he has spent this spring pitching in a scout league in Wisconsin on the weekends. Scouts who like him project him as a lefty who'll have command of three average pitches, while others hold his size, velocity and makeup concerns against him. Krol's out pitch is his hard, two-plane curveball, and some scouts grade his changeup as his second-best offering. He sat at 88-90 mph on the showcase circuit last summer but has pitched more at 86-88 mph this spring. At 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds , he doesn't project to add much more velocity, though he get s good sink on his fastball from a low-three-quarters angle. Krol has committed to Arizona, which will honor his scholarship despite his suspension. He projected as a possible third-rounder at the start of the season but now figures to go closer to the sixth round. pgcrosschecker: 213. Ian Krol LHP Sr. L-L 6-1 180 Neuqua Valley Naperville, Ill. Arizona 5-9-91 SCOUTING PROFILE (3/1): Krol positioned himself as the top prep pitching prospect in the Upper Midwest for this year's draft by going 9-1, 0.98 with 111 K's in 57 innings as a junior. He also hit .479-4-25 as an outfielder when not pitching. Krol is an athletic lefthander with a finesse approach to pitching but also some power stuff that should only continue to improve with experience. He worked mainly in the mid-80s at Perfect Game/World Wood Bat Association events in 2006 and 2007, but blossomed during the last year to a point where he regularly pitched at 89-90 mph and topped at 92. The factor that stood out most of all, though, was Krol's pitching knowledge, particularly his ability to hide the ball and mix up his pitches. He throws from a leg-lift delivery that has some effort and head jerk at release, but that doesn't seem to affect his command and consistency a bit. Krol has two quality off-speed pitches in addition to his fastball, and all three pitches look identical coming out of his hand. He pitches to spots with all of them. His mid-70s curveball is a strikeout pitch as it has a hard, late bite that overmatches hitters. His changeup has nice deception and arm speed at 80 mph. Krol pitches with a very confident mound presence.-DAVID RAWNSLEY -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 122.117.152.63
