curveball. He was previously a 34th-round selection by the White Sox in 2011,
but opted for college with intentions of improving his chances of being
drafted higher. His Draft stock may have been hurt in 2011 after he missed
the early part of his senior year because of a school-imposed suspension.

Diaz's father was a second round pick in 1993 and although he may not go as
high as his father did, he shouldn't have to wait too long to hear his name
called. Diaz is a reliable defender at short with solid actions but scouts
are split on whether he can remain at short due to fringy range and arm
strength. At the plate, he projects to be an average hitter who should add
more power as he fills out. A team that thinks he can stick at short should
take him off the board.

19th rd #581 A.J. Vanegas Stanford (CA) RHP R/R JR
6'03" 215lbs DOB: 08/16/92
BA National Rank:78
mlb.com:
Vanegas has always received good reviews for his pure stuff, starting back in
high school when he was a solid prospect who slid to the seventh round
because of his commitment to Stanford. The right-hander can sit in the
mid-90s easily and was throwing harder than that on the Cape this past summer.
He has a slider and started throwing a cutter on the Cape. He needs to refine
his command to be more effective, as he's been more stuff than results
throughout his career. His junior season was delayed as he recovered from a
back injury. Upon his return, he did settle in as the team's closer, once
again showing the raw stuff that has intrigued scouts since he was in high
school.

20th rd #611 Iolana Akau Saint Louis School (HI) C R/R HS

Hawaii, not known as a hotbed for talent in the past, is starting to grow in
recognition. While Akau won't get the kind of attention 2011 first-rounder
Kolten Wong received, he's gotten some looks this year. Akau is a great
defender behind the plate thanks to an above-average arm, soft hands and
agility behind the plate. He's not a bad hitter either, with a quick stroke
and some power potential. He is committed to Hawaii and may be a tough sign
as he is a good student and has shown a preference to attend college.

37th rd #1121 Francis Christy Casa Grande HS (CA) C L/R HS

Christy is a strong, athletic high school catcher. Listed at 6-foot-1, 215
pounds, he has good raw power. Christy will have to refine his approach at
the plate for him to unlock his power in games. Christy’s best attribute
defensively is his strong arm, which plays up due to his quick release. He
moves well behind the plate, but is a below-average receiver. Christy won’t
turn 18 until September, making him one of the youngest players in this Draft
class. He is committed to Oregon.
