1st rd #25 Matt Chapman Cal State - Fullerton (CA) 3B R/R JR 6'02" 205lbs DOB: 04/28/93 BA National Rank:64 Signed for/Slot money: 1.75M/1.898M mlb.com: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/67565098/v31229511/draft-report-matt-chapman-college-3bpitcher Scouting Grades* (present/future): Scouting Grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 40 | Arm: 70 | Field: 55 | Overall: 45 82.Chapman reminds some of former Fullerton star Michael Lorenzen -- a position player with tools, but questions about his hitting abilitiy. Like Lorenzen, Chapman is capable of lighting up radar guns on the mound as a reliever, though he's only seen very limited time on the mound. Chapman displays above-average power in practice but not so much in games. He manages the strike zone well but doesn't make consistent hard contact, and there are mixed opinions about his bat -- just as there were with Lorenzen, whom Cincinnati made a full-time pitcher after selecting him No. 38 overall last June. Unlike Lorenzen, who was the Titans' closer, Chapman has received little exposure on the mound to this point. He hasn't pitched in a college game and worked just two innings with Team USA during the summer. But in those two innings, he hit 98 mph with his fastball, giving teams a second option if they don't believe in the bat. BA: (1015)http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/ 25. Matt Chapman, 3b/rhp, Cal State Fullerton: His easy premium arm could push him to the mound if his bat doesn’t fit third-base profile. (0604)http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2014-mlb-draft-first-round-analysis/ 64.Pick analysis: Chapman has been rising up draft boards late in the process. Though the A’s were tied to prep position players, a demographic they had invested in at the top of the draft throughout the last few years, they returned to their college roots. Scouting report: Chapman has been an infield mainstay for three years at Cal State Fullerton, and he led USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team with 20 RBIs last summer. He also generated a buzz in two mound appearances for Team USA, running his fastball up to 98 mph, but he has not pitched in three seasons for the Titans. Chapman’s plus-plus is a major asset at the hot corner, where he has the actions and instincts to be an above-average defender. He has plenty of strength in his 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame, projecting for average power, but his line-drive swing is more tailored for driving doubles from gap-to-gap. Chapman has a disciplined approach and walks about as often as he strikes out. Scouts like his hard-nosed, blue-collar mentality and sound baseball instincts. And his premium arm makes pitching an intriguing fallback option should his bat eventually sputter. perfectgame: Draft Focus profile:http://album.blog.yam.com/thomashsnu (0519)http://album.blog.yam.com/thomashsnu KL http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/draftplayer?playerId=19491&wjb Keith Law - #56 3B, CAL STATE FULLERTON Chapman is one of two corner-infield prospects who also could be a relief prospects at Cal-State Fullerton along with Dylan Davis. While Davis may provide more offensive upside, Chapman could be the better overall prospect thanks to his value on defense. The biggest question mark for Chapman is the hit tool, there's a ton of swing and miss in his swing and he has struggled with velocity up in the zone and better breaking stuff. He does plus raw power from the right side, however, rotating his hips well and getting the bat through the zone with very strong wrists. Although Chapman is no more than an average runner, he looks the part at third base with good range and soft hands, and one of the stronger arms of any third baseman in the class. His footwork isn't perfect and the lack of speed could see him moving across the diamond, but he?s got a chance to be an average regular he can make offensive adjustments and stick at third. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?P=billy-mckinney-1 age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg 2012 Cal State Fullerton 19 189 54 10 0 2 1 3 12 29 .286 .340 .370 2013 Cal State Fullerton 20 186 53 11 3 5 6 2 34 29 .285 .415 .457 2014 Cal State Fullerton 21 205 64 16 2 6 6 2 27 26 .312 .412 .498 http://www.fullertontitans.com/sports/m-basebl/2013-14/files/Overall_Stats.pdf ---------- 2nd rd #65 Daniel Gossett Clemson (SC) RHP R/R JR 6'01" 175lbs DOB: 11/13/92 BA National Rank:90 Signed for/Slot money: 0.75M/0.8733M mlb.com: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/67565098/v32378569/draft-report-daniel-gossett-college-pitcher Scouting Grades* (present/future):Scouting Grades: Fastball: 50 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 50 | Overall: 45 87.Clemson has produced seven big league pitchers in the past 10 Drafts. If Gossett sneaks into the top three rounds this June, he'll have gotten picked higher than any of them, with the exception of 2007 first-rounder Daniel Moskos. A 16th-round pick by the Red Sox out of a South Carolina high school three years ago, Gossett often works in the low 90s with his fastball and tops out around 94 mph. He does a good job of commanding his heater, which is crucial because it's fairly straight. His best offering is a hard slider, and his changeup gives him a reliable third pitch. Gossett isn't imposing at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, so scouts wonder if he'll hold up as a starter in pro ball. He missed a start in early April with shoulder stiffness but came back strong afterward. If he has to move to his bullpen, both his fastball and slider could become plus pitches in shorter stints. Daniel Gossett, rhp, Clemson (JR) On the strength of increase velocity, Gossett has seen his draft stock skyrocket in 2014. He’s having another strong spring for Clemson, and working at 93-96 mph deep into outings has been what has truly captured scouts’ attention. With a 1.74 ERA as well as 94 strikeouts this spring, Gossett has consistently been one of the most dominant Friday starters in college baseball. And, scouts believed that could translate into a quick rise for him as a professional. KL http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/draftplayer?playerId=19537&wjb Keith Law - #51 Few pitchers have seen their stock rise as much as Gossett has this spring, as an athletic right-hander with above-average command and average to above- average stuff across the board. Gossett isn't overpowering, but his fastball will get up to 94 mph on occasion, sitting 90-92 with downhill plane. His best pitch is a slider with hard, late tilt that moves away from right-handed hitters, but his change is also an above-average pitch with late fade that can keep left-handed hitters off balance. He repeats his delivery well and throws strikes, though his command can wane as he gets deeper into ball games. There are those who believe that Gossett's stuff plays better in the bullpen, but a team will likely give him a chance to be a quality back-end starter who could move fast because of his ability to throw strikes and keep the ball in the ballpark. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?P=daniel-gossett age W L ERA G GS IP H R ER HR BB SO 2012 Clemson 19 6 3 4.32 19 10 77 62 37 37 4 39 87 2013 Clemson 20 10 4 2.56 16 16 98.1 78 40 28 7 38 91 2014 Clemson 21 7 2 1.93 15 15 107.1 78 25 23 4 30 107 ---------- 3rd rd #101 Brett Graves Missouri (MO) RHP R/R JR 6'01" 190lbs DOB: 01/30/93 BA National Rank:61 Signed for/Slot money: 0.51M/0.5192M mlb.com: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/67565098/v32371883/draft-report-brett-graves-college-pitcher Scouting Grades* (present/future): Fastball: 60 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 60 | Overall: 50 80.If Graves were bigger, he probably never would have made it to college. Scouts loved his athleticism and arm strength when he was coming out of high school in suburban St. Louis in 2011, but his size helped knock him down to a 26th-round pick by the Cardinals. Graves, who also drew interest from college football programs as a quarterback, continues to impress with his quick arm. He deals fastballs at 92-94 mph and tops out at 97, showing the ability to get swings and misses up in the strike zone and ground outs down in the zone. His hard slider lacks consistency but has its moments, and his changeup remains a work in progress. His 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame continues to lead to questions about his durability, but Graves continues to answer them by using his plus control to keep his pitch counts down. He maintains his velocity deep into games, and if he can refine his secondary pitches he could achieve his ceiling of a No. 3 starter. BA: (0528)http://album.blog.yam.com/thomashsnu perfectgame: Draft Focus profile:http://album.blog.yam.com/thomashsnu (0519)http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9904 Missouri has struggled since entering the world of SEC baseball, which makes Graves 3-5, 3.71 record in 85 innings as of mid-May somewhat deceiving. After all, Missouri’s ace from 2013, southpaw Rob Zastryzny, went 2-9, 3.39 in 92 innings before being selected by the Chicago Cubs in the second round. The same type of scenario could lie in the hard throwing and polished Graves’ future. KL http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/draftplayer?playerId=19538&wjb Keith Law - #55 Graves has gone somewhat under the radar compared to the other arms in the SEC, but few arms in the class have a better chance of realizing their ceiling than the Missouri right-hander, thanks to his ability to throw strikes and an advanced feel for pitching. The first thing scouts notice about Graves is how quick his arm is, and despite his somewhat small stature his fastball sits 92-94 mph with quality movement, occasionally touching 97. Neither of his secondary offerings are considered above-average at this point, though his slider is a solid-average pitch with some tilt and depth. He'll need to improve his change if he's going to start at the professional level, and use the pitch more often against left- handed hitters. He does throw all three pitches for strikes and hits his spots at a well-above average rate from a clean delivery that he repeats well. Because of his size -- or lack thereof -- some believe that Graves is going to end up becoming a reliever, but with his command and ability to induce ground balls he's got a chance to be a solid mid-rotation starter, assuming the change and breaking ball can be more consistent offerings. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?P=brett-graves age W L ERA G GS IP H R ER HR BB SO 2012 Missouri 19 4 5 6.32 18 10 47 56 36 33 2 30 28 2013 Missouri 20 2 5 3.80 14 13 71 78 38 30 9 21 32 2014 Missouri 21 3 6 3.87 14 14 93 98 45 40 4 18 64 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc), 來自: 59.120.12.253 ※ 文章網址: https://www.ptt.cc/bbs/Athletics/M.1428844938.A.664.html
