1st rd #25 Maxwell Muncy Thousand Oaks HS (CA) SS R/R HS SR 6' 1" 180lbs DOB:08/25/02 BA National Rank:43 Signed for/Slot money: $2.85M/$2.7403M MLB.com: https://www.mlb.com/video/2021-draft-max-muncy-ss?t=mlb-draft Scouting Grades/Report (20-80 grading scale) Hit50 Power55 Run50 Arm50 Field50 Overall50 Thousand Oaks High School in California has had some solid big leaguers come from its program, most notably Kurt Stillwell and Jack Wilson. Wilson is now the head coach of the program and is helping get the next highly thought of middle infielder, Muncy, prepared for what could be a long and productive career. Muncy, not related to the big leaguer of the same name, is a high-energy player who gets high marks for his desire to constantly work to get better. Muncy has the chance to be an average hitter with perhaps above-average power when all is said and done. He has the ability to use that power to all fields. He can get too big and his overall approach still needs work, leading to some swing and miss, but the future impact is definitely there. An average runner with a solid arm, Muncy would undoubtedly head out as a shortstop and would play there for Arkansas should he go on to college, but he could end up sliding over to third or second eventually. Those who believe in him might see a Dansby Swanson type, with a bit more power and a touch less hitability, with an offensive ceiling of someone like Ian Kinsler. Muncy’s best tool is his power, as he had nine doubles and 10 home runs in 93 at-bats this spring against a very high level of high school competition. His swings hard at everything, and showed a tendency to strike out at times, leading some to put a power-over-hit tag on him. He has the fundamentals to be a solid defender, but as an average runner with an average arm, he has left some scouts to worry about a potential move to second base, where his power should still play. age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg 2021 Varsity 18 11 10 24 16 .469 .576 .974 ---------- 2nd rd #60 Zack Gelof Virginia (VA) 3B R/R 4YR JR 6' 3" 205lbs DOB:10/19/99 BA National Rank:79 Signed for/Slot money: $1.1574M/$1.1574M MLB.com: https://www.mlb.com/video/2021-draft-zack-gelof-3b Scouting Grades/Report (20-80 grading scale) Hit50 Power50 Run50 Arm55 Field45 Overall50 Back in 2018, when Gelof was taken in the 38th round of the Draft, he was the first high school position player from Delaware to be drafted since 2014. He moved on to the University of Virginia and its starting lineup as a freshman, putting up solid numbers there and in the Northwoods League, where he hit .349 with a .916 OPS. That carried over to a big start to his shortened sophomore season, lining him up to be one of the more intriguing college power bats in the country. Excitement dampened when he began the year struggling to make an impact at the plate. Gelof still has some of the best raw power of any bat in this Draft class, especially among college hitters. That power showed up in games in 2020 at his pitching-friendly home ballpark in Virginia, with five homers in 18 games, though he wasn't finding that power stroke consistently in 2021. It's come with a bit of an all-or-nothing approach that has led to a good amount of swing-and-miss, presenting an Adam Duvall-like offensive profile. While his strikeout rate was down and he drew a lot of walks in 2021, it did not lead to an increase in offensive impact. The 6-foot-3 infielder runs well, especially for his size, and is a better athlete than people might expect. That said, it’s unclear if he will stick at third. He has enough arm and might move well enough to stick and become an Austin Riley-type at the hot corner. But his limitations might necessitate a move to an outfield corner, where he could profile well as a power-hitting right fielder. https://www.mlb.com/athletics/news/oakland-athletics-2021-draft-day-2-coverage BA: https://www.baseballamerica.com/draft-history/mlb-draft-database/#/?Year=2021&Ro Perfectgame: https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=19617 TheAthletic: https://theathletic.com/2580901/2021/07/10/2021-mlb-draft-big-board-keith-law-ra https://theathletic.com/2703675/2021/07/12/get-to-know-the-as-day-2-draft-selections-from-zack-gelof-to-jack-winkler/ AthleticsNation: https://www.athleticsnation.com/2021/7/12/22574053/mlb-draft-2021-oakland-as-third-round-pick-day-2 Kubota: http://athleticsfarm.com/2021/07/17/scouting-director-eric-kubota-offers-the-inside-scoop-on-as-2021-draft-picks/ Fangraph: https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2021-mlb-draft/summary?sort=-1,1&t 60.Full Report Gelof has a very intense swing and hit for significantly more power during his very short sophomore year than he did as a freshman. He's a well-rounded third base prospect whose hit/power combination has to carry him. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=215900 age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg 2019 Virginia ACC 19 227 71 13 0 2 16 3 24 52 .313 .377 .396 2020 Virginia ACC 20 63 22 6 2 5 4 3 13 18 .349 .469 .746 2021 Virginia ACC 21 260 81 18 0 9 12 1 32 40 .312 .390 .485 http://static.virginiasports.com/custompages/sports/m-basebl/stats/2020-2021/SeasonStats.pdf?_gl=1*j7ygyw*_ga*NzA5MjQzMDI0LjE2MjYzMjA5ODc.*_ga_F71HVM4XXB*MTYyNjMyMDk4Ny4xLjAuMTYyNjMyMDk4Ny4w ---------- 3rd rd #97 Mason Miller Gardner-Webb University (NC) RHP 4YR 5S 6' 5" 200lbs DOB:08/24/98 BA National Rank:236 Signed for/Slot money: $0.5991M/$0.5991M MLB.com: Scouting Grades/Report (20-80 grading scale) Fastball70 Slider50 Changeup50 Control50 Overall40 Miller logged a 7.10 ERA in his first two seasons as a reliever at NCAA Division III Waynesburg (Pa.) before he was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. After changing his diet, he put nearly 50 pounds on his 6-foot-5 frame and added velocity to his pitches, setting a school record with 97 strikeouts in 67 2/3 innings in 2019 and continuing to dominate in the shortened 2020 season. He completed his degree in finance last spring and received interest from Arkansas and Coastal Carolina as a graduate transfer before opting to pursue an MBA and a professional baseball career at Gardner-Webb, where he has established himself as one of the hardest-throwing starters in college baseball this spring. Miller averages 95 mph with his fastball, tops out at 99 and works in the mid-90s deep into games. While his heater doesn't feature a lot of life, he displays the ability to locate it to either side of the plate. His low-80s slider and mid-80s changeup show flashes of becoming solid offerings but need more consistency, with his slide piece sharper last fall than it has been this spring. For a big guy, Miller has good body control and repeats his delivery well enough to reliably provide strikes. He'll need to learn to finish off more advanced hitters, but he has a legitimate chance to start and a nice fallback as a flamethrowing reliever. He belongs in the first five rounds on talent alone and could match Gardner-Webb's record for highest pick ever (third round) because he'll turn 24 a month after the Draft and thus will come with a discount. https://www.mlb.com/athletics/news/oakland-athletics-2021-draft-day-2-coverage BA: https://www.baseballamerica.com/draft-history/mlb-draft-database/#/?Year=2021&Ro Perfectgame: https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=19665 TheAthletic: https://theathletic.com/2703675/2021/07/12/get-to-know-the-as-day-2-draft-select AthleticsNation: https://www.athleticsnation.com/2021/7/12/22574053/mlb-draft-2021-oakland-as-thi Kubota: http://athleticsfarm.com/2021/07/17/scouting-director-eric-kubota-offers-the-inside-scoop-on-as-2021-draft-picks/ http://thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=231577 age W L ERA G GS IP H R ER HR BB SO 2017 Waynesburg College 18 1 4 7.03 13 4 32 42 28 25 0 15 42 2018 Waynesburg College 19 1 5 7.16 9 7 32.2 38 38 26 1 28 22 2019 Waynesburg College 20 8 2 1.86 11 11 67.2 40 19 14 1 31 97 2020 Waynesburg College 21 2 0 2.57 2 2 14 8 5 4 1 8 24 2021 Gardner-Webb 22 8 1 3.30 15 14 92.2 73 39 34 6 30 121 https://gwusports.com/sports/baseball/stats/2021/pdf -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc), 來自: 114.34.170.28 (臺灣) ※ 文章網址: https://www.ptt.cc/bbs/Athletics/M.1626322495.A.289.html ※ 編輯: ThomasHSNU (114.34.170.28 臺灣), 07/24/2021 16:45:34
