4th rd #127 Denzel Clarke Cal State Northridge (CA) OF R/R 4YR JR 6' 5" 220lbs DOB:05/01/00 BA National Rank:85 Signed for/Slot money: $0.7M/$0.4474M MLB.com: https://www.mlb.com/video/2021-draft-denzel-clarke-of Scouting Grades/Report (20-80 grading scale) Hit45 Power50 Run60 Arm50 Field50 Overall45 A toolsy high school outfielder from Ontario, Clarke played on the Canadian U-18 Junior National Team and was selected by the Mets late in the 2018 Draft. A cousin of Cleveland first baseman/outfielder Josh Naylor and prospect Bo Naylor, Clarke went on to Cal State Northridge and kind of flew under the radar for much of the 2021 season, though his loud tools started to get more attention as the spring wore on. Clarke gets a lot of his athleticism from his mother, who was an Olympic heptathlete at the 1984 Summer Games. He’s learned to translate his plus speed on the basepaths to be an effective basestealer and to cover a lot of ground in the outfield. He did a better job this spring using his tools more consistently overall at the plate with a strikeout rate that was trending in the right direction, with plenty of raw power still to tap into. There is still some concern about the swing-and-miss, and while he punished fastballs this year, he did struggle more against spin. A center fielder exclusively this year, Clarke does have the chance to play there because of that speed, and some scouts feel he can stay there with some tweaks with his first step and angles on fly balls, though some think it might be safer to move him to a corner given his 6-foot-5 frame. There’s some ceiling here that comes with a little risk, with some team sure to bet on the tools at the next level. https://www.mlb.com/athletics/news/oakland-athletics-2021-draft-day-2-coverage BA: https://www.baseballamerica.com/draft-history/mlb-draft-database/#/?Year=2021&Ro Perfectgame: https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=19624 TheAthletic: https://theathletic.com/2580901/2021/07/10/2021-mlb-draft-big-board-keith-law-ra https://theathletic.com/2703675/2021/07/12/get-to-know-the-as-day-2-draft-select AthleticsNation: https://www.athleticsnation.com/2021/7/12/22574053/mlb-draft-2021-oakland-as-thi Kubota: http://athleticsfarm.com/2021/07/17/scouting-director-eric-kubota-offers-the-inside-scoop-on-as-2021-draft-picks/ Fangraph: https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2021-mlb-draft/summary?sort=-1,1&type=0&pageitems=200&pg=0 75.Full Report Clarke is a high-end athlete whose mom was an olympian. Teams think, because he's a cold weather prospect, that he'll have late skill growth, and they love how much power potential he has. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=216073 age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg 2019 CSUN BigWest 19 144 35 7 2 5 12 2 21 54 .243 .353 .424 2020 CSUN BigWest 20 40 16 4 1 3 5 2 5 15 .400 .529 .775 2021 CSUN BigWest 21 142 46 11 0 8 15 2 26 40 .324 .429 .570 https://gomatadors.com/documents/2021/3/20/2021_CSUN_Baseball_Overall_Stats.pdf ---------- 5th rd #158 CJ Rodriguez Vanderbilt (TN) C R/R 4YR SO 5' 10" 200lbs DOB:07/07/00 BA National Rank:300 Signed for/Slot money: $0.4M/$0.3301M MLB.com: https://www.mlb.com/video/2021-draft-c-j-rodriguez-c Scouting Grades/Report (20-80 grading scale) Hit50 Power40 Run20 Arm55 Field55 Overall40 With Ty Duvall and Dominic Keegan sidelined at the start of the 2020 season, Rodriguez suddenly became Vanderbilt's regular catcher as a freshman. He showed the ability to handle college baseball's most talented pitching staff and has boosted his profile by providing more offense this spring. Most teams project him as a quality backup, though a club that thinks he can hit enough to be regular could take him in the top four rounds. Rodriguez has soft hands and does a nice job of receiving and blocking pitches, and he moves fine behind the plate despite bottom-of-the-scale speed. His arm earns average-to-solid grades and plays up because he makes accurate throws. He has strong leadership skills and earns praise for his ability to manage a game and his pitchers. Rodriguez focuses on making contact with a simple right-handed swing. He's rarely fooled at the plate, controls the strike zone and hits the ball where it's pitched. He's walking more often and driving the ball more consistently in 2021 after rarely doing so a year ago, but he still figures to top out at 10-12 home runs annually. https://www.mlb.com/athletics/news/oakland-athletics-2021-draft-day-2-coverage BA: https://www.baseballamerica.com/draft-history/mlb-draft-database/#/?Year=2021&Ro Perfectgame: https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=19665 TheAthletic: https://theathletic.com/2580901/2021/07/10/2021-mlb-draft-big-board-keith-law-ra https://theathletic.com/2703675/2021/07/12/get-to-know-the-as-day-2-draft-select AthleticsNation: https://www.athleticsnation.com/2021/7/12/22574053/mlb-draft-2021-oakland-as-thi Kubota: http://athleticsfarm.com/2021/07/17/scouting-director-eric-kubota-offers-the-inside-scoop-on-as-2021-draft-picks/ http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=224912 age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg 2019 Vanderbilt SEC 19 45 13 3 0 0 0 0 5 3 .289 .370 .356 2020 Vanderbilt SEC 20 185 46 9 0 5 1 0 36 19 .249 .371 .378 ---------- 6th rd #188 Grant Holman California (CA) 4YR JR RHP 6' 6" 250lbs DOB:05/31/00 BA National Rank:117 Signed for/Slot money: $0.375M/$0.2553M MLB.com: https://www.mlb.com/video/2021-draft-grant-holman-rhp Scouting Grades/Report (20-80 grading scale) Fastball60 Curveball45 Slider55 Changeup50 Control45 Overall45 During his first two years at California, Holman had done double-duty as a pitcher and hitter, contributing as a weekend starter and as a first baseman/DH during the shortened 2020 season. The right-hander threw well in the San Diego League this past summer and showed off improved stuff in the fall. Scouts had to wait to see if it carried over to the spring as Holman missed the start of 2021, but came back in late March with similarly electric stuff. Holman has the chance to have a legitimate four-pitch mix, all coming from a strong, durable build that points to a potential starting pitching profile. He touched 97 mph as a reliever in San Diego, and was 93-97 mph out of the gate this spring for Cal, throwing his fastball with heavy riding life. He already had a live slider and a splitter he uses as his offspeed offering and added a slower 12-to-6 curve that looks like it could be a usable weapon, while the slider and splitter both can miss bats. All of Holman’s pitches have a lot of action and he has a feel to find the strike zone with all of them. There’s not a lot of track record yet given his split focus, but he is a college arm with some serious upside, one who could climb boards in a hurry as a full-time starter this spring. https://www.mlb.com/athletics/news/oakland-athletics-2021-draft-day-2-coverage?t=athletics-pipeline-coverage BA: https://www.baseballamerica.com/draft-history/mlb-draft-database/#/?Year=2021&Ro Perfectgame: https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=19624 TheAthletic: https://theathletic.com/2580901/2021/07/10/2021-mlb-draft-big-board-keith-law-ra https://theathletic.com/2703675/2021/07/12/get-to-know-the-as-day-2-draft-select AthleticsNation: https://www.athleticsnation.com/2021/7/12/22574053/mlb-draft-2021-oakland-as-thi Kubota: http://athleticsfarm.com/2021/07/17/scouting-director-eric-kubota-offers-the-inside-scoop-on-as-2021-draft-picks/ http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=221022 age W L ERA G GS IP H R ER HR BB SO 2019 California Pac12 19 4 3 4.57 12 9 41.1 44 22 21 4 11 25 2020 California Pac12 20 1 3 3.28 4 4 24.2 20 10 9 0 4 20 2021 California Pac12 21 1 3 3.83 10 10 47 50 20 20 6 22 46 https://calbears.com/sports/baseball/stats/2021/pdf ---------- 7th rd #218 Brett Harris Gonzaga (WA) 3B R/R 4YR SR 6' 3" 208lbs DOB:06/24/98 BA National Rank:NR Signed for/Slot money: $0.12M/$0.2001M MLB.com: The Gonzaga senior was the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the all-conference first team. His offensive profile didn’t improve much as a sophomore as he played second regularly in deference to Alika Williams, a 2020 comp-round pick. Swift hit well in that shortened ’20 season and has kept it up this year while manning short every day, greatly improving his Draft stock. There are no questions about Swift’s glove. Most scouts see him as a plus defender with outstanding instincts, hands, footwork and enough arm to stay at short for a very long time, and he’s already shown he’s a plus defender at second should he have to move around the infield at the next level. Whether he’ll have to do that or can play shortstop every day at the Major League level will depend on what he can do at the plate. He’s definitely improved and was finding a bit more extra-base authority this year, but the question will be just how much he can impact the ball on a consistent basis. He gets high marks for his athleticism and his makeup, giving confidence he’ ll maximize the tools he does have. https://www.mlb.com/athletics/news/oakland-athletics-2021-draft-day-2-coverage?t=athletics-pipeline-coverage BA: https://www.baseballamerica.com/draft-history/mlb-draft-database/#/?Year=2021&Ro Perfectgame: https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=19684 TheAthletic: https://theathletic.com/2703675/2021/07/12/get-to-know-the-as-day-2-draft-select AthleticsNation: https://www.athleticsnation.com/2021/7/12/22574053/mlb-draft-2021-oakland-as-thi Kubota: http://athleticsfarm.com/2021/07/17/scouting-director-eric-kubota-offers-the-inside-scoop-on-as-2021-draft-picks/ http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=213884 age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg 2018Arizona State Pac12 19 154 31 2 0 0 3 3 24 46 .201 .321 .214 2019Arizona State Pac12 20 162 43 9 1 0 1 1 28 41 .265 .375 .333 2020Arizona State Pac12 21 63 23 3 0 1 1 1 5 12 .365 .403 .460 2021Arizona State Pac12 22 223 70 10 4 6 6 3 23 50 .314 .387 .475 https://thesundevils.com/sports/baseball/stats/2021/pdf ---------- 9th rd #278 Shane McGuire University of San Diego (CA) C L/R 4YR SR 6' 0" 195lbs DOB:04/12/99 BA National Rank:NR Signed for/Slot money: $0.1M/$0.1508M https://www.mlb.com/athletics/news/oakland-athletics-2021-draft-day-2-coverage?t=athletics-pipeline-coverage BA: https://www.baseballamerica.com/draft-history/mlb-draft-database/#/?Year=2021&Ro Perfectgame: https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=19684 TheAthletic: https://theathletic.com/2703675/2021/07/12/get-to-know-the-as-day-2-draft-select AthleticsNation: https://www.athleticsnation.com/2021/7/12/22574053/mlb-draft-2021-oakland-as-thi Kubota: http://athleticsfarm.com/2021/07/17/scouting-director-eric-kubota-offers-the-inside-scoop-on-as-2021-draft-picks/ http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=214289 age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg 2018 San Diego WCC 19 174 50 8 1 1 4 4 36 37 .287 .417 .362 2019 San Diego WCC 20 197 64 12 0 1 3 2 34 26 .325 .444 .401 2020 San Diego WCC 21 32 15 4 0 1 0 0 5 2 .469 .561 .688 2021 San Diego WCC 22 176 49 12 3 6 4 1 28 14 .278 .392 .483 https://usdtoreros.com/sports/baseball/stats/2021/pdf ---------- 10th rd #308 Jack Winkler University of San Francisco (CA) SS R/R 4YR SR 6' 2" 185lbs DOB:11/04/98 BA National Rank:486 Signed for/Slot money: $0.05M/$0.143M https://www.mlb.com/athletics/news/oakland-athletics-2021-draft-day-2-coverage?t=athletics-pipeline-coverage BA: https://www.baseballamerica.com/draft-history/mlb-draft-database/#/?Year=2021&Ro TheAthletic: https://theathletic.com/2703675/2021/07/12/get-to-know-the-as-day-2-draft-select AthleticsNation: https://www.athleticsnation.com/2021/7/12/22574053/mlb-draft-2021-oakland-as-thi Kubota: http://athleticsfarm.com/2021/07/17/scouting-director-eric-kubota-offers-the-inside-scoop-on-as-2021-draft-picks/ http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=214377 age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg 2018 San Francisco WCC 19 179 43 8 0 1 2 1 17 44 .240 .338 .302 2019 San Francisco WCC 20 227 68 17 0 6 9 3 20 55 .300 .379 .454 2020 San Francisco WCC 21 65 13 1 0 0 5 3 8 13 .200 .350 .215 2021 San Francisco WCC 22 202 62 17 1 17 23 4 22 42 .307 .392 .505 https://usfdons.com/sports/baseball/stats/2021/pdf ※ 編輯: ThomasHSNU (114.34.170.28 臺灣), 07/24/2021 16:51:41
