Catcher Caleb Lomavita might be the star attraction as a potential first-rounder, but evaluators also get the bonus of seeing Green’s considerable tools in action as well, many of which were on display in a sophomore season that saw him hit 14 homers and swipe 29 bags before playing for Team USA over the summer. It’s been more of the same as a junior, complete with concerns about his hit tool. Green possesses an exciting power-speed combination, but enthusiasm is dampened by his propensity to swing-and-miss. There’s a ton of raw pop for him to tap into, and while he started turning on pitches and hitting balls out to his pull side as a sophomore, the left-handed hitter might be at his best when he lets the ball travel and he drives it the opposite way, something he was doing more of this fall. There was hope that was a sign of an improved hit tool, but his strikeout rate has continued to hover over 31 percent as it did during his first two years of college. His unorthodox mechanics at the plate -- he doesn’t use his lower half – have continued to hamper him. Green is an easily plus runner, the kind of long strider who is even better underway. That helps him cover a lot of ground and could give him a chance to play center field, though some scouts think he might be better suited to left, and he’s worked hard to build his arm strength from well below average in high school to average now. There’s still a lot of ceiling here, but many teams will be scared off about his lack of consistent contact. He spent a year pitching for Lower Columbia, a junior college in Washington, before transferring to Oregon State. After two years of not getting a single inning on a competitive mound, Stuhr moved on to Portland, where he’s been a mainstay in the weekend rotation. He fanned 12 in his first start, and while his performance has been more uneven since that debut, he’s shown enough arm strength to intrigue scouts in the area. A 6-foot-1 right-hander, Stuhr is a compact and strong hurler with four pitches at his disposal. He throws his fastball consistently in the 94-97 mph range with some carry, and he backs it up with two distinct breaking balls. The 84-87 mph slider is his best secondary option, and it misses a lot of bats in and out of the zone. His 80-83 mph curve is less consistent, but it does have some good downer action to it. He has some feel for a mid-80s changeup but doesn’t land it for strikes consistently, and he even fiddles with a cutter thrown about the same velocity as the slider. While Stuhr has missed a ton of bats, he’s struggled with his overall control and will need to work on his fastball command, though he may not have been helped by the Portland coaching staff forcing him to pitch backwards off of his slider too often. He might best be suited for a bullpen role, where that fastball-slider combination might play up, but there could be some untapped potential here given how little mound time he’s received. Romeo didn’t transfer to a United States high school program to get more exposure, but he did raise his profile by pitching for the Canadian junior national team and then showed off his stuff against older competition in MLB’s Draft League before heading to the Combine in June. While nothing jumps off the page right now for the athletic 6-foot-3 right-hander, it’s easy to dream on more stuff to come for Romeo. He has a loose, quick arm that typically fires fastballs in the 90-92 mph range, and he touched 93-94 in the Draft League and in the high school game at the Combine. His heater typically features good sink. He complements it with a solid low-80s slider that has good spin and bite to it, and while his changeup is a development pitch, he can show a decent one he sells with good arm speed that has some fade occasionally. Romeo is smart on the mound and throws strikes with all of his offerings. As he physically matures and fills out his frame, there should be more velocity and bite to his stuff. His willingness to challenge himself in the Draft League and be seen at the Combine shows where he wants to go, even if he heads to Florida State for college ball first.
