SAN DIEGO -- Rookie Chin-lung Hu's one-out single in the ninth inning off
Trevor Hoffman scored Russell Martin and lifted the Dodgers to a 3-2 win over
the Padres in Sunday's rubber game of the three-game series.
Hu, giving 40-year-old second baseman Jeff Kent a day off, cashed in on a
leadoff walk to Martin, who had advanced to second on Blake DeWitt's
groundout.
Jonathan Broxton got the win, and Takashi Saito earned his first save of the
year.
Andre Ethier slugged his first home run of the year, to right-center off San
Diego starter Chris Young, leading off the second inning, but the Padres tied
the game off Dodgers starter Derek Lowe in the third on Adrian Gonzalez's RBI
double.
San Diego broke the tie in the sixth with an unearned run. Tadahito Iguchi
reached when first baseman James Loney was unable to short-hop Rafael
Furcal's low throw, took third on Gonzalez's single and scored on Kevin
Kouzmanoff's sacrifice fly. Furcal later made a game-saving leaping catch on
Scott Hairston's line drive in the eighth.
The Dodgers tied the game in the seventh when Ethier singled, stole second
and was doubled home by Martin. Ethier is 6-for-16 with three homers against
