The Azzurrini were considered one of the favourites to win the Under-21 European championships, but were eliminated at the semi-final stage by eventual winners Germany. The defeat put the former striker's future at the helm of the Italian youngsters in doubt, but the overall consensus is that the side put in positive performances in Sweden and so Casiraghi has been given another chance.
