Sundov seals return
Backup center exercises option
By Shira Springer, Globe Staff, 6/17/2003
Even though Bruno Sundov received scant playing time this past
season, the 7-foot-2-inch center knew as the playoffs approached
that he wanted to return to the Celtics for a second year.
Yesterday, Sundov made it official by exercising his player
option for the 2003-04 campaign.
Sundov, who appeared in 26 games, averaging 1.2 points and 1.1
rebounds in 5.3 minutes, will be paid approximately $750,000.
A primary reason Sundov decided to stay was his familiarity with
the Celtics' system. He did not want to face the prospect of
learning a new one with a new team.
Sundov originally signed with the Celtics as a free agent July
19, 2002.
Summer schedule
The schedule for the Reebok Pro Summer League at UMass-Boston was
announced yesterday. On opening night, July 14, the Celtics will
play at 8 p.m. against the Cavaliers, who are expected to feature
high school phenom LeBron James, the impending No. 1 choice in the
NBA draft. Tickets go on sale June 26 at 10 a.m. for the Summer
League, which runs from July 14-20, with all games at the Clark
Athletic Center. Tickets are available at the FleetCenter box
office, online at www.celtics.com, or by calling 1-800-4NBA-TIX.
There is a four-ticket limit per person for all evening sessions
on the first day of sale. There will be afternoon and evening
doubleheaders Monday through Thursday (July 14-17), then afternoon
doubleheaders and evening tripleheaders on Friday and Saturday (July
18-19). The league concludes with four games on Sunday, July 20.
After taking on Cleveland, Boston returns to action July 16 against
NBA champion San Antonio. The Celtics also will face the Knicks,
76ers, Hawks, and Nets during the seven-day competition . . . The
Celtics were saddened by the loss of longtime stat crew member Stan
Muir, who died Sunday.
