NEW BOSS IN THE NEW MAG
Posted on: Fri 14 Aug 2009
Having sewn up his first silverware at the club, the time has come for
Carlo Ancelotti to introduce himself to readers of Chelsea magazine.
The Italian may only just be getting comfortable in the manager's chair at
Stamford Bridge, but he has already secured the return of the Community
Shield to SW6, and now he is out for more success.
Chelsea caught up with the Italian for a relaxing chat as he discussed his
move to England, his grasp of the language and his love of Parmesan
cheese…
Hailing from the town of Reggiolo in northern Italy, Ancelotti began his
playing career with Parma before moving on to Roma and finally AC Milan,
from where he has just joined us after spending eight years as coach.
It must have been a hard decision to up roots and leave his home country
for the first time…
'It is a great opportunity for me to have a new challenge and it will be
an experience. Chelsea is a great team in Europe, with the possibility of
winning the Champions League,' he said.
'The most important thing I have learned is that they have an excellent
mental attitude to work. As well as the players this is a top
organisation - we have the possibility to work in a quiet, calm place with
excellent facilities.'
Ancelotti, nicknamed Carletto, also explains he conversed with a couple of
Chelsea legends before arriving in London.
'I spoke with Gianluca Vialli and he told me about the atmosphere at the
stadium and the supporters so I know these things now because I never came
here with Milan,' he said. 'Both he and Ruud Gullit, who was my team-mate,
have a good feeling about this club.'
Carlo will get to sample a packed Stamford Bridge for the first time on
Saturday when we entertain Hull, and it is likely we will be seeing the
4-4-2 diamond formation that has been on show throughout the summer.
'I want to change something,' he said, prior to our US Tour. 'I prefer to
play with two strikers and one midfielder behind the strikers. I'd like to
try this and I think these players can play in this system, with a diamond
in midfield.'
Speaking of that tour, there is plenty more from this month's Chelsea,
including a look behind the scenes at all that went on in America through
the eyes of our kitmen, Terry Ellis and Mick Roberts.
They were there every step of the way as the squad served up four
victories to a record number of supporters, among them Hollywood stars
Will Ferrell (a Chelsea fan), Malcolm McDowell and Alyssa Milano.
Elsewhere in September's Chelsea, we find out what attracted us to new boy
Daniel Sturridge, go from A-Z with Ron Harris and hear what you, the fans,
have to say in the Shed End.
There is also plenty for the younger Blue, with the Write Stuff welcoming
a new guest editor each month, as well as offering the chance to win a new
2009/10 home shirt. All you need to do is identify the mystery man on the
page, and in which games he scored…
Chelsea is on sale now in all good newsagents and from the club Megastore
at Stamford Bridge, so buy yours now for the bargain price of £3.25.
