The Portuguese centre-back discusses his Chelsea career and the 200-match milestone he recently reached, which places him among some of the greatest overseas players to have joined Chelsea. Gianfranco Zola, Didier Drogba, Claude Makelele and Marcel Desailly are just some of the names who've already reached the 200-game mark. Since Carvalho's arrival in 2004 there have been some massive changes at Chelsea. 'In my first two months we trained at Harlington,' explained Carvalho in the exclusive, snowy cover interview, 'and when I first arrived at the training ground it wasn't so good. 'I didn't have a winter there but you could feel it was cold inside. Now we have Cobham and it's not bad. Here we have the restaurant, the pool, everything together.' Carvalho's arrival at the club was spurred by Jose Mourinho, a man he'd played under at Porto, and so with the onset of a Champions League tie against his former manager, is he excited? 'I'm looking forward to meeting with him again, we've got Inter and they are a good side,' said Carvalho. 'Mourinho knows most of our players very well, every day we were training with him, but now we have to fight against him. 'He's a little bit funny but when the game starts you don't think about if it's Mourinho you're facing, we're not friends then! You don't think about the coach, of course we respect the team but we must make sure we do our best.' Speaking of Mourinho's return, this magazine's edition of You Ask the Manager was bound to field a question to Carlo Ancelotti based on the upcoming European clash. http://www.chelseafc.com/javaImages/a8/3/0,,10268~8258472,00.jpg
Mag Feb 2010 Dean West asks our Italian manager his thoughts following the draw with Inter Milan and whether he feels it could possibly be the biggest game of our season. 'Inter was the strongest team in the second group so I was not happy about the draw,' Ancelotti answers, 'but I don't think it is our biggest game of the season. I like to think that the biggest game will be the Final.' This month your questions to Ancelotti range from the FA Cup and our form in the League to the manager's first Christmas in England and his choice of dinner. Read Chelsea for his answers. Ushering in a new decade, the magazine takes a look back over the previous 10 years, the most successive period in the club's history, with a year- by-year review. http://www.chelseafc.com/javaImages/b4/3/0,,10268~8258484,00.jpg
Mag Feb 2010 The official publication also looks to the future in a frank and honest interview with defender Kenny Strickland, who's hoping to cement his place in the reserves following a summer move from Manchester United. The 19-year-old talks about his experience rising through the youth ranks at United before deciding to join the Blues and heading to Austria in the Academy's pre-season tour. 'I went to Austria having been offered a three-month contract with the club and when I came back they thought I'd done well enough to get an extension for the season,' reports Strickland. From talk of the Academy's pre-season training, Chelsea moves onto The Training Ground and part two of a Christmas special, Losing the Holiday Weight, offering some fantastic ideas and exercises to help burn off that extra Yuletide fat. The tactics section takes a closer look at our centre-backs' attacking role in the side while the CPO Annual Lunch is covered extensively, including interviews with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Bobby Tambling, Tommy Baldwin and Terry Venables. Then, to top it all off, impressionist Jon Culshaw speaks to Chelsea about his talent and a particular impersonation of a former Blues manager. The February issue of Chelsea is available now from the Megastore at Stamford Bridge, in an online version or in all good newsagents, priced at just £3.25.
