YOUTH CUP WINNER SCORES FOR ENGLAND
Posted on: Wed 19 May 2010
Josh McEachran, one of the Chelsea Under 18 side that began the club's May
trophy haul with the FA Youth Cup, netted as England began the European
Under 17 Championship Finals with a win.
The midfielder struck the second in a 3-1 win over Czech Republic in a
group game, finishing off a move he started by lifting the ball over the
keeper from close range. He also hit the bar in the first-half.
Also playing for England was Nathaniel Chalobah, a Chelsea schoolboy
centre-back who will be joining on a full-time basis next season.
England Under 17s face Greece next on Friday with Turkey on Monday
completing the group stage of the Liechenstein-based Finals.
'I thought we did well,' McEachran told TheFA.com after the first game.
'Especially in the second half, we played much better. In the first half
we made a few individual mistakes, one that led to their goal, but in the
second half we brought it back well.
He managed to fall flat on his face during his goal celebration. 'I got a
couple of knocks on my legs during the game, nothing too bad, but my face
hurt more,' he reported. 'I'm okay now, though.'

YOUTH INTERNATIONALS: BORINI ON TARGET, ENGLAND PROGRESS
Posted on: Sat 22 May 2010
Fabio Borini was on target to help Italy Under 19s to victory in the first
game of a European Championship qualification tournament.
Italy beat Czech Republic 2-0 on Friday despite playing for over 30
minutes with 10 men. A Jacopo Sala cross led to the opening goal in the
first half before Borini doubled the lead 15 minutes from the end with a
shot from the edge of the penalty area. Sala played the first-half, Borini
was subbed on 78 minutes.
Italy face Northern Ireland on Sunday and then host-nation Russia on
Wednesday.
Chelsea youth products Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah were part of
the England Under 17 team that ensured a place in the European
Championship semi-finals with a win over Greece on Friday night.
A 1-0 victory in the second group game of the tournament in Liechenstein
gave the young England side six points out of six. McEachran, playing
behind the main striker, was typically creative while schoolboy defender
Chalobah headed a corner just wide.
England's final group game is against Turkey on Monday with the semi-final
on Thursday.
Jeffrey Bruma and Patrick van Aanholt have both been in action for the
Dutch Under 19 side in two matches against Portugal. The first resulted in
a 3-1 defeat; the second match, in which Van Aanholt only played the first
half, ended goalless.

INTERNATIONALS: CARVALHO BACK IN ACTION
Posted on: Tue 25 May 2010
World Cup warm-up matches began for Chelsea players on Monday night as
although none of our England four were in action at Wembley, our
Portuguese three all started their country's game.
A 0-0 home draw will give some satisfaction to defenders Ricardo Carvalho
and Paulo Ferreira, although the opposition was hardly the most testing.
Cape Verde Islands were the visitors.
Carvalho was playing his first match since our 5-0 away win at Portsmouth
two months ago and was replaced at half-time. Ferreira at left-back played
68 minutes with Deco subbed on 57 minutes.
The Czech Republic are not World Cup-bound but that didn't prevent them
playing a friendly away to Guus Hiddink's Turkey over the weekend. Petr
Cech was in goal for a 2-1 defeat. It was his 50th cap won while with
Chelsea. Turkey have also not qualified for the Finals.
At junior international level, Fabio Borini and Jacopo Sala were again in
action for Italy Under 19s as they booked their place in July's European
Championship Finals by making it two wins out of two in a qualification
tournament. Borini played the whole of a 3-2 win over Northern Ireland but
unlike the first match did not find the net. Sala played the first half.
England Under 17s, already qualified for the semi-final of the on-going
European Championships Finals, left Chelsea duo Josh McEachran and
Nathaniel Chalobah on the bench for their final group game against Turkey
on Monday evening. The pair had played the previous two matches and are
likely to return for Thursday's semi against France.
Meanwhile Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda have both been confirmed in
France's final 23-man squad that will contest the World Cup in South
Africa. Former Chelsea player Lassana Diarra misses out due to intestinal
illness.
France play a friendly against Costa Rica on Wednesday.

INTERNATIONALS: BLUES WIN WITH LES BLEUS
Posted on: Wed 26 May 2010
Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda both made the starting line-up of
France's first World Cup warm-up match.
Anelka played the first half of a 2-1 win in the centre of a three-man
attack before being replaced at half-time by Thierry Henry while Malouda,
who didn't featured regularly under coach Raymond Domenech in qualifying,
played 77 minutes on the left of midfield.
Visitors Costa Rica, who up front featured Bryan Ruiz, a team-mate of
Miroslav Stoch at FC Twente last season, took the lead before an own-goal
put France level.
Mathieu Valbuena of Marseille, making his France debut, hit the winner on
83 minutes.
Petr Cech played his second international of the close season this week
and although he conceded twice, Czech Republic were 4-2 winners over
England's World Cup opponents the United States. The match was held in
Connecticut.
Fabio Borini, captain of Italy Under 19s, was on target for a second time
in his side's four-game qualification tournament, responding to two Russia
goals with a long-range strike in the 62nd minute. However Russia scored
again and won 3-1 although the defeat didn't damage Italy's passage into
July's European Championship Finals. They had won their earlier two games.
Jacopo Sala again started in a much-changed Italy side and played 74
minutes.
England Under 19s and Republic of Ireland Under 19s began their
qualification tournament by meeting in Kiev which brought two Chelsea
midfielders into direct competition. Jacob Mellis enjoyed the better of
the result over Conor Clifford as England won 1-0. Mellis played 76
minutes, Clifford the full game.
On Thursday afternoon, Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah are expected
to play for England Under 17s in the semi-final of the European
Championships at that level. Chelsea's official website will have news of
the result against France.

MCEACHRAN AND CHALOBAH THROUGH TO FINAL
Posted on: Thu 27 May 2010
Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah both played a part in England's
Under 17 Euro semi-final win over France today.
Connor Wickham netted twice in the first half as England beat France 2-1
while Chelsea Academy stars McEachran (pictured) and Chalobah lined up in
midfield and defence respectively.
Paul Pogba pulled one back for France in the 56th minute but it was too
little too late as England went through to the Uefa Under 17 European
Championship Final.
Chalobah played the full game while McEachran was replaced by George
Thorne in the 68th minute.
John Peacock's side will now begin preparations for the final on Sunday.

CLIFFORD WINNER FOR YOUNG IRELAND
Posted on: Sat 29 May 2010
Conor Clifford, who scored the winner in the FA Youth Cup Final, netted
another important goal on Friday night, this time for Republic of Ireland
Under 19s.
The midfielder's penalty on the hour following a handball was enough to
beat home side Ukraine, despite Ireland losing a man to a red card just
after half-time.
The 1-0 win in a four-team tournament keeps Ireland in with a chance of
qualifying for the European Championship Finals in July.
Ireland lost to England in their first game and the England Under 19 side
made it two wins out of two with a 4-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina in
Kiev. Jacob Mellis played 65 minutes and supplied the pass for the third
goal.

INTERNATIONALS: STOCH SELECTED IN WARM-UP
Posted on: Sun 30 May 2010
Miroslav Stoch was the one Chelsea player in World Cup warm-up action on
Saturday.
He played for the first half of a 1-1 draw for Slovakia against Cameroon
in Austria and had a big part in Kamil Kopunek's fifth-minute opener,
receiving a pass, turning well inside the area and laying the ball back
for a 25-yard finish.
Slovakia, who will be the only team appearing for a first time in the
World Cup Finals, conceded the equaliser on 82 minutes.
Serbia were in action on the same day in the same stadium in a match
affected by crowd trouble, however Branislav Ivanovic was not involved.
Serbia went down to World Cup outsiders New Zealand by a single goal
following a mistake from Nemanja Vidic.
On Sunday, John Terry, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard will start for
England against Japan in Austria. Joe Cole will be on the bench.
Also in action are France against Tunisia, Ivory Coast against Paraguay
and Nigeria versus Colombia at Milton Keynes.
The Nigerian FA have reported: 'John Mikel Obi arrived at the camp Friday
morning after completing his rehabilitation exercises with medics of
Chelsea.'
Also on Sunday England Under 17s aim to become European champions by
beating Spain in Liechtenstein. Chelsea Academy products Josh McEachran
and Nathaniel Chalobah have played a big part in the team reaching the
final.
It kicks off at 4.30pm and is live on Eurosport 2 in the UK.

INTERNATIONALS: VICTORY FOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR ENGLAND
Posted on: Sun 30 May 2010
Chelsea Academy products Josh McEachran and Nathanial Chalobah can
celebrate being crowned European Under 17 Champions after England came
back from a goal down to beat Spain 2-1.
McEachran (pictured) is a midfielder who was part of Chelsea's FA Youth
Cup win while Chalobah is a schoolboy centre-back who is still 15 and will
be joining the club full-time next season.
They have been important parts of the international side that has
triumphed in Liechtenstein in a tournament that ended on Sunday, and
become the first England men's team to win a major competition since 1993.
It's the first time England have conquered Europe at Under 17 level.
It was a McEachran inswinging corner from which England equalised and he
went close with a shot before the winner was scored shortly after the
interval.
For the senior side, Joe Cole came on at half-time against Japan on Sunday
afternoon, ensuring all four of Chelsea's England players began World Cup
warm-up action.
John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole all started and completed the
game in Austria which ended in a 2-1 win for our players. Japan scored as
early as the seventh minute but then netted two second-half own goals, the
first from a Joe Cole cross, the second from an Ashley Cole delivery.
Before those two goals for England, Lampard had the chance to level from
the spot but his effort was saved, making it consecutive penalty misses
following his FA Cup Final failure.
'It wasn't a great penalty', the Chelsea midfielder admitted after the
game. 'It's disappointing because I've practised loads this week. I'm
always confident in taking them and that will make me go away and work
harder.'
England manager Fabio Capello confirmed Lampard would remain the first-
choice from the spot.
'The FA Cup was not important, Chelsea were winning 1-0,' he said. 'This
was more important. It was 1-0 to them. But anyone can miss a penalty. I
will keep Frank Lampard as penalty taker.'
Didier Drogba opened the scoring with a deflected free-kick for Ivory
Coast in a 2-2 draw with Paraguay. He played the full game with Salomon
Kalou taken off at half-time. All the goals came in the second half.
For the second time this week both Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda
started for France, this time in a 1-1 draw away to Tunisia. Malouda
played the full game, Anelka the first 63 minutes.
John Mikel Obi was not involved in Nigeria's 1-1 draw with Colombia in
Milton Keynes.

INTERNATIONALS: CLIFFORD NETS AGAIN
Posted on: Mon 31 May 2010
Conor Clifford scored the winner for the second time in as many games for
Republic of Ireland's Under 19s on Monday.
The Chelsea youth team captain, who also netted the winning goal in the FA
Youth Cup at the beginning of the month, ended it with a penalty against
Bosnia and Herzegovina in Ukraine this afternoon.
The midfielder, who also skippers his international side, scored the
game's only goal against the hosts of this Uefa European Under 19
Championship qualifier on Saturday, and this penalty also proved decisive,
though Ireland did not qualify for the finals in France.
That was because England earned a 1-1 draw against Ukraine to claim top
spot in the group, thanks to a late equaliser from Tottenham's Dean
Parrett. Chelsea man Jacob Mellis was an unused sub.
