DROGBA AND TROPHIES STAR IN NEW MAGAZINE
Posted on: Tue 08 Jun 2010
As the dust begins to settle on our greatest ever season, Chelsea magazine
catches up with the man you fans voted the Player of Year.
Didier Drogba's World Cup participation might be in the balance due to a
fractured elbow, but it doesn't prevent the Ivorian reflecting on a club
campaign that saw him earn a number of prestigious personal accolades and
tie up a first double.
So, where did it all go right for the 37-goal forward?
'I think it started for me when I had a good pre-season and I knew after
that I would have a chance for a good season,' he tells Chelsea. 'I was
really excited about it and I think now I can say it is the best season I
have had.
'I am really happy and enjoying my football and the games we were playing,
especially at Stamford Bridge, have been amazing.'
Having received his Player of the Year award at the beginning of May, the
forward invited his team-mates onstage with him, and he feels a debt of
gratitude towards them.

'Without my team-mates it wouldn't be possible for me to score goals and
it was important for me to call them and be with them onstage.
'There's a fantastic team spirit here and we've known each other for a
long, long time now. When we win we do it together and when we lose we do
it together as well. But the thing that never changes is that we always
fight for the same cause, which is the team.
'In this side everybody deserved this trophy. I'm a striker and sometimes
we get more of the headlines because we finish the action, but how can I
score the goals if I don't get the assists?'
One of the men who contributed so much towards that was Drogba's friend
and team-mate Florent Malouda, another who features heavily in Chelsea
this month.
The French international was the players' pick for the season, chipping in
with a more than respectable 15 goals and countless assists, and he too
shares his thoughts in the official magazine.
Despite such a rich vein of form, he'll not be resting on his laurels when
he returns to Cobham after the World Cup.
'The next moment is always the most important for a player because every
time you do something good or nice on the pitch you have to confirm it by
doing it again,' he explains.
'Once you show great skills and quality, people expect you to do it week
in and week out. So that's why I'm really proud to win this award for how
I've played over the whole season.'

Chelsea Magazine
There is much, much more from both players, as well as a look at the
celebrations that took place after the Double success, and a recap of the
glamorous end-of-season awards evening, not to mention all the latest news
and behind the scenes pictures from Stamford Bridge.
Double-winning manager Carlo Ancelotti answers questions sent in by
supporters, the youth team take their place in the spotlight having added
to the club's trophy haul and with the World Cup beginning this week,
Chelsea doesn't forget the month's big event. Blue participation maybe
reduced but it still involves significant numbers in South Africa and the
magazine looks at their chances, and with England starting their quest for
glory against the USA, there is a look at Chelsea players who also plied
their trade Stateside.
The July issue of Chelsea magazine is priced £3.25, and is available now
in the Megastore at Stamford Bridge or in good newsagents.
A digital version is available to buy online.
