INTERNATIONALS: WIN FOR RAMIRES
Posted on: Mon 11 Oct 2010
Derby was the unusual location for Brazil's friendly with Ukraine on
Monday night, in which Chelsea man Ramires played just over an hour.
The central midfielder was replaced by Tottenham's Sandro on 64 minutes,
by which time he had helped his side on the way to victory at Pride Park.
In a hastily arranged game, it was the Brazilians who came out on top
thanks to an excellent volley from Barcelona wing-back Dani Alves in the
first half and Alexandre Pato's smart finish in the second.
Brazil, without defender Alex due to his thigh injury sustained against
Arsenal, keep up their 100 percent record under new coach Mano Menezes.
Former Chelsea forward Andriy Shevchenko also missed the match through
injury.

BLUES YOUNGSTERS IN ENGLAND SUCCESS
Posted on: Mon 11 Oct 2010
Chelsea Academy product Aziz Deen-Conteh played for England Under 19s in a
victory that put his side into next year's Uefa European Championship
elite qualification round.
The 17-year-old left-back, who was part of Chelsea's victorious FA Youth
Cup side last season, played the full 90 minutes of a 4-0 win over Cyprus
in Belgium on Sunday.
It was his second match at this level having previously represented
England at Under 16 level.
The Under 19s game was the second of a preliminary qualifying tournament,
Deen-Conteh having stayed on the bench for a 6-1 win over Albania in the
opening game.
Josh McEachran, who played the first 45 minutes of the Albania match, came
on after 56 minutes against Cyprus.
England now play hosts Belgium on Wednesday, safe in the knowledge they
are assured a place in the next stage of the qualification process for the
European Championship Finals.

INTERNATIONALS: UNBEATEN BUT UNSATISFIED
Posted on: Tue 12 Oct 2010
There were clean sheets all round for Chelsea's senior international
contingent on Tuesday night, though not all emerged victorious, or even
completed the contest.
After a delay due to crowd trouble, Branislav Ivanovic started at right-
back for Serbia in Italy, but that game in Genoa was abandoned after just
nine minutes as visiting supporters threw flares and bangers at home
supporters and on to the pitch.
Petr Cech was a near spectator as Czech Republic strolled to a 2-0 win
over Liechtenstein away in Vaduz, the goalkeeper having just one effort on
target to worry about in his 90 minutes.
Ashley Cole spent most of England's 0-0 draw with Montenegro at Wembley
trying to help first Ashley Young and then former Blue Shaun
Wright-Phillips try to break through the visitors' defence, but to no
avail.
Florent Malouda was a starter for France but was replaced after 63 minutes
as France ran out 2-0 winners against Luxembourg in Metz, their goals
coming from Karim Benzema and Yoann Gourcuff in either half.
Yury Zhirkov completed the 90 minutes for Russia as they earned a precious
three points on the road in Macedonia with a 1-0 win thanks to Alexandr
Kerzhakov's early goal.
Earlier in the day at Under 21 level, Patrick van Aanholt helped Holland
to a 2-0 win over Ukraine in Kiev, but the 3-1 defeat suffered at home on
Saturday means they will not be at the finals in Denmark. The left-back
played the entire 90 minutes from left-back, and was booked three minutes
into the second half. Jeffrey Bruma succumbed to a hamstring problem and
had to miss the game, returning to England for treatment.
Fabio Borini was an unused sub as he watched his Italy team-mates
surrender a 2-0 first leg victory against Belarus, losing 3-2 after
extra-time as the unfancied Eastern Europeans progress to the finals.

CHELSEA QUARTET MAKE UNDER 21 FINALS
Posted on: Tue 12 Oct 2010
Four Chelsea players were part of an England Under 21 success as a single-
goal advantage going into a difficult away leg in Romania was preserved.
Tuesday afternoon's 0-0 draw qualifies Michael Mancienne, Daniel
Sturridge, Ryan Bertrand and Jack Cork for the European Under 21
Championship Finals next summer.
Stuart Pearce's side took a 2-1 lead into the second leg of their play-off
against a Romania side that had qualified very strongly from the group
stage.
However England's campaign had been built on defensive resilience rather
than goalscoring prowess and so it proved again as a side that had
Mancienne in central defence and Bertrand at left-back survived early and
late pressure from the home side.
Sturridge, a substitute in the first leg, came into the starting line-up
in place of Jack Wilshere who had joined up with the senior squad, and the
Chelsea striker had two early shots on target, both with his right-foot
and both saved.
He came off just past the hour mark following treatment after a tackle and
was booked over the length of time it took leave the pitch when replaced.
Mancienne, the team captain, also picked up a yellow card and Cork was
introduced to the game on 81 minutes.
Age at the start of the qualification campaign determines player
eligibility for this competition so Mancienne can play in the Finals in
Denmark despite the fact he will be over 23 when it kicks off in June.
Later on today Jeffrey Bruma and Fabio Borini will attempt to follow in
England's footsteps with The Netherlands trailing 3-1 ahead of an away
game in Ukraine and Italy 2-0 up from a home leg against Belarus.
Gael Kakuta was part of a France Under 20 side that beat a Juventus Under
20 team in a match in France. The final score was 5-0 with Kakuta involved
in creating the second goal.
