STURRIDGE SETS HIS GOALS IN NEW MAG
Posted on: Thu 01 Sep 2011
It is that time once again as Chelsea magazine returns with a belter of an
issue for October.
Back from suspension and raring to go, Daniel Sturridge takes centre stage
this month as he outlines his blueprint for success.
Not content with being one of the crowd, the Birmingham-born striker
celebrates his 22nd birthday today, and has big ideas for the year ahead.
'I do want to be one of the best, I don't want to be content with being
average. That's everybody's ambition,' he says. 'Average is nothing
special. People would be lying to themselves if they said they were
content with being an average player - everyone wants to be the best.'
Eight goals in 12 games on loan at Bolton at the end of last season
certainly place Sturridge way ahead of average, and he is looking forward
to playing some football after a frustrating beginning to the season - a
red card in his final Bolton appearance meaning an absence from the first
three Premier League games.
'I've grown up a lot because there's been a lot of highs and lows since I
joined the club. It's been a rollercoaster for me and I've grown up a
lot,' he explains.
'I've developed the mentality of being a winner, wanting to win every
game. When we drop a point it is the end of the world. Those are the
things I've learned since moving here and they've made me the player I am
now.'
Under Andre Villas-Boas, Sturridge is hoping for increased chances in the
first team, wherever on the pitch that may be.
'He likes me to dribble, to shoot, to try and create goals for the team,'
says the former Manchester City man. 'Whichever position he chooses for
me, I'll play there. I'm a versatile player, and there's definitely more
freedom playing wide rather than as a striker.'
As well as talking positions, heroes and dance moves, 'Studger' also
answers your questions in a new feature for 2011/12.
Elsewhere in Chelsea this month, we take a peek inside Branislav
Ivanovic's Photo Album, and catch up with Salomon Kalou for a Did You
Know - the Ivorian revealing a detailed knowledge of capital cities and
discussing his friendship with Arsenal new boy Gervinho.

Chelsea magazine - October
Turning back time we catch up with FA Cup winner Scott Minto to talk about
his time with the Blues, and discover he could easily have signed for the
Gunners instead, but there was only one club for him once he knew Glenn
Hoddle was interested, even though his new manager could still teach him a
few things on the training field!
Chelseafc.com's Pat Nevin also features in Chelsea in October, looking
back to 1984 when local band Accent, pioneers of the Casual movement,
played at the Bridge prior to a game with Barnsley.
Flying winger Nevin is joined in the mag by another who tended to perform
out wide, Accent bassist Mick Robertson as they recall their musical
youth. Nevin even issues an apology to Depeche Mode, who he once slated
with a review!

news from inside the club and a look back at the Hong Kong Asia Trophy,
lifted proudly aloft by John Terry and the rest of the squad this summer.

Megastore and all good newsagents.
