預備隊聯賽第21輪 http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~2730116,00.html RESERVE REPORT: WIGAN ATHLETIC 2 CHELSEA 2 Posted on: Tue 10 Apr 2012 The second string's final away game of the season ended all square after Chelsea took the lead having conceded the first goal, but let the win slip inside the final 10 minutes. The goals were divided evenly between the halves although the second 45 minutes were far more lively than the first. Adam Phillip, starting just his second reserve game of the season as he returns from injury, equalised Wigan's opener before Patrick Bamford netted his fourth goal in six reserve appearances to put Chelsea ahead shortly after the interval. In a game played in an athletics arena next door to the DW Stadium, Wigan finished strongly and will feel the late equaliser reflected the balance of the game. == Team news == With members of the team that played at Wolves last week now preparing for Friday's FA Youth Cup semi-final, Dermot Drummy brought Alistair Gordon (pictured) in at right-back, Anjur Osmanovic in to play the 'no. 10' role and make his reserve team debut, while in the wide attacking positions were Tom Howard and Adam Phillip, continuing his comeback from injury and making his second reserve start of the season. == First half == Billy Clifford, playing as one of the two deeper midfielders, had an early shot off-target but Wigan managed to work the ball wide throughout the half and James Russell had to save with his legs from Ryan Watson who had cut in from the wing, before Rakish Bingham shot over. Russell in the Chelsea goal dirtied his gloves on 16 minutes, saving a well-struck free-kick from distance before Wigan, marginally on top by this stage, forced a corner when George Saville cleared over his own bar but the home side wasted the set-piece. The Latics' second string put together the most incisive move so far midway through the half when their left-back Adam Buxton took a return pass inside the Chelsea area but was dispossessed by a superbly timed challenged by right-back Gordon. Rohan Ince then rose high to head away a cross soon after but when the ball reached Wigan midfielder Tim Chow on the edge of the area, he hit a fine volley into the top corner of the Chelsea net, giving Russell no chance. There were 27 minutes played. The setback brought Chelsea, who had previously shown little sign of threatening the home side's net, to life and we went straight up the other end and equalised, Phillip in the right place to score from close range after Bamford pulled the ball back from wide. There was more drive to the Chelsea display for the rest of the half but there was an escape five minutes before the whistle after Conor Clifford gave the ball away deep in our half. Fortunately Chow, who already scored with a perfect strike, got his shot all wrong this time. Bamford then had a chance when the ball broke fortuitously his way as the other end but needing to react quickly, he sliced a high-bouncing ball over. == Second half == If the start to the first half had been uneventful, the second was anything but. Dermot Drummy made a switch during the interval, bringing on Ismail Seremba for Tom Howard on the right wing and the sub was involved inside the Wigan area almost immediately, but it was Bamford who scored with just three minutes gone. It was a fine goal too from the January signing, playing a second game in a row in his preferred centre-forward position. He turned his marker and then raced through a gap in the centre of the Wigan defence before finishing expertly, high to the keeper's right. Yet again, the other side almost went straight down the other end and equalised but this time, when Callum Morris looped a ball high towards the target, Gordon managed to race back to back-head off the Chelsea line, his second piece of potentially goal-saving defending. The home team later contrived to miss a guilt-edge chance when Ryan Watson opted to nod a cross down with the goal gaping and his fellow striker Bingham blasted wide. On 65 minutes, Wigan went close again but first the leg of Russell kept the ball out and a follow-up shot by Bingham was blocked. Chelsea were not far away soon after when Seremba drilled a shot just wide from a cross as the lively half continued, but the home side were continuing to apply pressure and with nine minutes left of the clock, they equalised. A free-kick was initially fired into the wall but the rebound was played back in to the danger zone and Callum Morris found the net. Chelsea created one more chance before the end, Bamford backheeling to substitute Sam Bangura who returned the ball. Bamford's shot was low and hard but Calvin Hare in the Wigan goal did very well to save. In stoppage time it needed James Russell at full-stretch to prevent Wigan's Steven Bootham from snatching all three points. 'I am pleased with the lads endeavour and the football we tried to play first half,' said reserve team manager Dermot Drummy. 'The second half Wigan pressed us and the football wasn't conducive to the way we want to play, but we had some first years here who are probably not going to make the Youth Cup squad and their attitude was fantastic, and with our senior players as wellwe had Adam Phillip coming back from a long injury and he gave us a good hour, it was a great goal from him after a great run from Patrick Bamford, and a great finish by Patrick for the second goal.' 'We could have nicked it at the end and I can't fault the spirit. There are always things to work on but I am generally pleased.'
