UNDER-19S TAKE POINT FROM THE NORTH

The Chelsea Under-19 side remained in contention for a place in the
knockout stages of the NextGen tournament with a 1-1 draw away in Norway
on Wednesday night.
Molde were the opposition for our third group game in the Champions
League-style competition for this age group, which the club has entered
for the first time this season.
The home side took the lead on the hour when Jan Tidjani Aboubacar scored
but the young Chelsea team kept pushing for an equaliser and were rewarded
when two substitutes combined - Isak Ssewankambo (pictured) netting from a
Reece Mitchell cross three minutes from time.
'Molde were decent opposition but we played some good football and should
have taken more of our chances,' reports manager Dermot Drummy.
'We went 1-0 down after not picking up the scorer from a corner but the
young lads acquitted themselves really well and worked hard to get a point.
'We nearly scored when a cross was almost turned into their own net by
Molde, it just missed the post, and Reece Mitchell had a header that went
close from an Islam Feruz cross just before our goal.
'It was very cold but it was a beautiful setting and we were looked after
very well by the hosts. All in all it was a great experience in travelling
for all these young players.'
The point leaves Chelsea third in our group with four points, two behind
Ajax and eight behind CSKA Moscow but the Russians have played two games
more. Two of our remaining three group games are at home, starting next
Thursday when Molde visit Cobham.
The top two in each of the four groups go through to the knockout stage,
as do the four best third-placed sides.
