The midfielder had not played since coming off with a knee injury during Chelsea's Boxing Day win at Norwich but he completed Nigeria's 0-0 draw with Cape Verde Islands, in a match held in Faro, Portugal where they are holding their training camp. Victor Moses also played the full 90 minutes with Kenneth Omeruo, the 19-year-old centre-back who signed for Chelsea last January and is on loan at Den Haag, coming on at half-time for his first appearance for the full national side. Mikel came close to winning the game eight minutes from time but his shot was saved. The Africa Cup of Nations begins in South Africa on 19 January, with Nigeria beginning against Burkina Faso on 21 January. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3048971 LATE BLOW FOR BLUES AT AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS Posted on: Mon 21 Jan 2013 Nigeria were denied a winning start to their Africa Cup of Nations campaign when Burkina Faso scored in the 94th minute to secure a 1-1 draw in Group C. John Mikel Obi played the full 90 minutes for Nigeria - who had Efe Ambrose sent off - in a more advanced role than he is accustomed to at Chelsea, while our young defender Kenneth Omeruo - currently on loan at ADO Den Haag - was a second-half substitute, replacing Brown Ideye with 13 minutes remaining. Emenike had given them the lead in the 22nd minute after he raced on to an Ideye flick and stabbed his effort beyond the advancing goalkeeper. Clear-cut opportunities were proving hard to come by at both ends, although Uche came closest to doubling Nigeria's advantage with a powerful drive which flew inches wide. Mikel could have put the game to bed with three minutes remaining when he fired over, and as the Nigerian supporters inside the Mbombela Stadium began to celebrate, substitute Alain Traore arrived in the box to give Burkina Faso a share of the spoils right at the death. Victor Moses was an unused substitute and will hope to play some part in Nigeria's next group game against holders Zambia on Friday at 3pm (UK time). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3053437 AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS: CHELSEA TRIO DRAW Posted on: Fri 25 Jan 2013 John Mikel Obi missed a first-half penalty and created a second-half goal as Nigeria drew their second group game at the Africa Cup of Nations. As in their opener against Burkina Faso, the Super Eagles let a lead slip late on. This time they were the victims of a dubious penalty award, converted by Zambia keeper Kennedy Mweene to make it 1-1 after Emmanuel Emenike had put Nigeria ahead. The game, held in Nelspruit in South Africa, livened up in the second half. Mikel's penalty was pretty much the only incident of note before the break. Davies Nkausu clearly fouled Ahmed Musa in the 25th minute but from the spot, Mikel hit the outside of the post. All three Chelsea players in the Nigeria squad started the match, Victor Moses and Kenneth Omerou for the first time in the Cup of Nations finals. Omeruo, the 19-year-old central defender currently on loan at Den Haag, came in for suspended Efe Ambrose and survived a first-half knock to the head to complete the game. Moses had recovered from the hamstring strain that kept him out of Nigeria's opening game and played 78 minutes. Operating in a wide position, he had a dangerous looking cross cut out in one of the few attacks of note before the interval, and was then prominent as Nigeria applied pressure early in the second-half. In the face of this improved football, Zambia, the trophy holders, cracked in the 56th minute when Mikel won the ball deep in their half and threaded a ball forward for Emenike to finish well. But having gone behind, Zambia started to threaten for the first time since the early stages, however they were fortunate when mild contact on the very edge of the penalty area was adjudged a foul just inside it, and their keeper Mweene scored an extraordinary penalty into the roof of the net, just under the crossbar. All three games so far in this four-team group have been draws with Burkina Faso to play Ethiopia later on Friday. Nigeria have plenty of work to do when they play Ethiopia on Tuesday if they are to make the knockout stages. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3057900 NIGERIA PROGRESS Posted on: Tue 29 Jan 2013 Two Victor Moses penalties ensured Nigeria's Chelsea trio are likely to face Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations. The winger, a summer signing from Wigan Athletic, struck twice late on to book his side's place in the knockout stages, which for long periods looked in doubt. Had the game remained goalless, Nigeria would have gone out, with reigning champions Zambia going through in their place due to having received fewer yellow cards. As it is, Moses, John Mikel Obi and youngster Kenneth Omeruo, on loan with Dutch side Den Haag, will be away from their club duties a little longer. All three performed well on the night, and will now look forward to seeing Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and friends in the next round. Nigeria were favourites against Ethiopia and were on top for most of the game. Two minutes in Mikel was fouled deep inside the Ethiopian half, allowing Moses to send a free-kick into the danger area where Efe Ambrose met it but headed too high. Shortly afterwards Moses had another dead-ball effort, this time opting to shoot, and forced a save from the goalkeeper after seeing his shot deflected. Just after the 20-minute mark yet another Moses free-kick found Ikechukwu Uche, but like Ambrose before him, the forward headed over, and then the winger's corner was headed on target by Uwa Echiejile, but the goalkeeper was equal to the effort. Mikel was influencing the game from midfield with a number of rangy passes, while Omeruo was enjoying a quiet evening's work at the back, with Nigeria well on top of their less experienced opponents. Just before half-time Mikel received a heavy challenge that required treatment, but he was okay to continue and was quickly back into the action, sending a free-kick into the area, where the ball eventually fell to Omeruo, but the 19-year-old steered his shot over the bar ensuring a goalless end to the first half. Five minutes before the break Omeruo made an important intervention at the near post to prevent Ethiopia an easy goal. With the game goalless, it looked as though Nigeria were going to be heading out via the fair play rule, but 13 minutes from time Moses was brought down inside the area, dusted himself off and calmly slotted home into the bottom corner to give his side the advantage. Ethiopia almost struck back immediately, and had goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama to thank for palming away a point-blank header from the Ethiopian forward who had escaped Omeruo's attentions. Mikel's cross at the other end ought to have brought a second goal for the Nigerians, but Brown Ideye's header was saved and Ethiopia broke, forcing the midfielder to track back and commit a foul on the edge of the box. He was yellow-carded for his troubles. Nigeria survived the scare though and promptly broke to the other end, where once again Moses was brought down, this time by the goalkeeper, Sisay Bancha, who was given his marching orders. Moses stepped up once more after a long wait for the Ethiopian outfielder to be given the right kit to replace Bancha in goal, but the outcome was the same and he picked out the other bottom corner. With 90 minutes up, Nigeria were home and dry, which meant Mikel could be rested for the seven minutes of added time that would follow. -- http://fanchants.com/football-songs/chelsea-chants/we-all-follow-the-chelsea/ We All Follow The Chelsea, Over land and sea (and Leicester) We All Follow The Chelsea, Onnnntooo vi-ic-toreee... -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 111.248.157.129
