U18聯賽第五輪精華 http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2014/09/ under-18s-report--chelsea-5-west-bromwich-albion-0.html Under-18s report: Chelsea 5 West Bromwich Albion 0 Sat, 20 Sep 2014 == Summary == Our Under-18s produced a dazzling display at Cobham this afternoon (Saturday) as they ran out 5-0 winners against West Brom. First half goals from Miro Muheim, Charlie Wakefield and Tammy Abraham sent Joe Edwards' side in at the break with a commanding advantage, before Abraham added a personal second and substitute Faiq Bolkiah rounded things off with a fifth. == Team news == Edwards made two changes from the starting side that drew 2-2 with West Ham last weekend as new scholars Wakefield and Muheim made their first starts of the campaign. The duo supported Abraham in attack, while Ruben Sammut, Mukhtar Ali and Kyle Scott comprised the midfield trio. The back five were unchanged from last week with Jay Dasilva, Fikayo Tomori, captain Jake Clarke-Salter and schoolboy Josh Grant protecting Bradley Collins in goal. == First half == The hosts started confidently in possession, moving the ball quickly as they sought to find spaces in West Brom's compact midfield zone. Collins saw an early header float harmlessly over his bar following Chay Scrivens' free kick from the right before the young Blues grabbed the lead inside 11 minutes with their first chance of note. A quick break was spearheaded by Abraham's advance down the right and the striker had good options in the penalty box as Scott and Muheim supported. He opted to find Muheim at the far post and the Swiss Under-17 international produced a neat low finish into the far corner to net his first goal in Chelsea blue. The young Blues continued to control and create throughout the half and Ali fired narrowly wide from a good position after more strong work down the right from Abraham. Albion's Bradley Sweeney almost capitalised on some loose possession play at the back from Chelsea, though it was Edwards' team causing most problems as Abraham flashed a shot across the face of goal and Alex Palmer in the visitors' goal saved from Sammut's header. Patience and pressure soon prevailed as the Blues doubled their advantage through winger Wakefield. Abraham stole the ball from Phil Gannon in midfield and shifted it to Scott, who advanced and found Wakefield. The England youth international picked it up and finished well beyond Palmer with the aid of a slight deflection. That ruthlessness continued as Chelsea scored a third goal moments before the break. A brilliant passing move from back to front came to a head as Wakefield found Abraham and the striker finished expertly to give his side a three-goal cushion at the interval. == Second half == West Brom started the second period with a higher intensity and Sweeney had an effort loop narrowly over the bar, though it wasn't long before the Blues were on the scoresheet again and it was Abraham notching his third goal in two games. Another great flowing attack down the right saw Scott turn creator once more and advance to the byline, where his cross was finished neatly from close range by the England Under-18 striker. Andre Wright escaped briefly in behind for the visitors but pressure from recovering defenders meant his poked shot was comfortable for Collins, while both Ali and substitute Isaac Christie-Davies fired over and Tomori headed inches wide as Chelsea continued to carve out opportunities to add further goals. A fifth goal did arrive in the 73rd minute as substitute Bolkiah slalomed his way past a couple of defenders and hit a strong effort at goal that squirmed past Palmer and into the back of the net. The young Albion goalkeeper soon redeemed himself with a great save to deny Christie-Davies from close range, though it was to be Chelsea's day as an impressive performance was capped with an emphatic victory to send them joint-top of the table. Next up for the Under-18s is a trip to London rivals Tottenham next Saturday 27 September, while our Under-21 side are also in league action on the same afternoon as they travel to Leicester City. == Manager reaction == Edwards expressed his satisfaction with his team's display and highlighted the attacking and creative performance of his forward players as a particularly pleasing aspect of the victory. Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he said: 'I'm delighted with the performance today. After the draw against West Ham last week we were focusing on getting a result today, not just a performance, and we achieved that really well. 'We changed the system a little and went back to 4-3-3, which the boys know really well and allows us to make the pitch really big. Having Miro Muheim and Charlie Wakefield, two naturally wide players, back from injury allowed us to go back to that system and I felt that was a key feature of the game right from the start. We knew West Brom would come here and be organised but we were patient with a purpose of opening the pitch up and making them work. 'You often hear people saying it's nice when players all over the pitch are chipping in with goals but ultimately you want your attackers creating and scoring goals so that was pleasing today to have three wingers on the scoresheet and Tammy getting two goals. Like last week, we played really well in the first half but the difference today was punishing them with the goals before half time.' The manager also reflected on a strong defensive performance as his side secured their second clean sheet in three outings, following eight goals conceded in their opening two games. 'We've conceded too many goals so far this season and it's something we're disappointed with and know we have to improve on but today you could see in the second half how important the clean sheet was for the boys. They kept talking and showed great focus and discipline to make sure they didn't concede. 'The back four built from their defensive strengths early on and Jake Clarke-Salter and Fikayo Tomori as a pair were very good against a tricky centre-forward. In midfield, Ruben Sammut and Mukhtar Ali are developing a nice partnership and they dominated that area both on and off the ball today. 'People that have followed this group of players for a while will have known a result like this was going to come sooner or later. Confidence is a big thing in those early days of being a new scholar and it takes a bit of time for that to grow but you saw it today as the game went on and we played some fantastic football and scored some outstanding goals.'
