http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2014/11/ uefa-youth-league-report--maribor-0-chelsea-7.html UEFA Youth League report: Maribor 0 Chelsea 7 Wed, 5 Nov 2014 Our Under-19s recorded an emphatic 7-0 victory in Slovenia to make it maximum points from our opening four games and strengthen our grip on the group with two matches remaining. Two goals inside 11 minutes – by Dominic Solanke and Charlie Colkett from the penalty spot – put us firmly in control of the contest, and three more first-half goals all but ended the game as a contest before the break. Maribor's cause wasn't helped when they had Luka Uskokovic dismissed in the second half for a second bookable offence, and late strikes by substitutes Alex Kiwomya and Tammy Abraham compounded their misery. We now lead second-placed Schalke by six points, albeit having played a game more, and the German side are our next opponents, away from home, at the end of this month. == Team news == Having made his debut for the first team a week ago at Shrewsbury, Andreas Christensen started for Adi Viveash's Under-19s as the central figure in a three-man defence. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Charlie Colkett and Charly Musonda, so effective in the last away game against Sporting Lisbon, retained their places, with the width provided by Jay Dasilva and Ola Aina. Izzy Brown captained the side and partnered Dominic Solanke in attack. == First half == The Blues began the game well and almost broke the deadlock inside the opening five minutes. Colkett's free-kick deflected off the wall and fell into the path of Solanke, who flicked the ball back to Christensen. The Dane fired powerfully towards goal and forced a fantastic save from Maribor's keeper Damjan Prineg. Moments later, however, we weren't to be denied, and Solanke will seldom, if ever, have scored an easier goal. As the ball was played back to Prineg, the goalkeeper failed to find a proper connection on the clearance, and sliced it straight to the feet of the Chelsea striker, who took one touch to bring it under control and then fired into the back of the net. From our next attack we were awarded a penalty as Loftus-Cheek, racing on to a loose ball, was scythed down inside the box by defender Luka Uskokovic. Colkett, like in Lisbon, was entrusted with taking the kick, and just like in Lisbon, the midfielder made no mistake, calmly rolling the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2-0. The home side were struggling to get out of their half as the Blues took control of the contest and Solanke went close to adding a third, driving wide from a tight angle. As the 25-minute mark approached, it was 3-0. Musonda picked the ball up deep inside the Maribor half and was allowed to advance unchallenged. With the defenders backing off, he went for goal, and dispatched a low drive into the corner of the net to extend our advantage. Colkett released Solanke with a wonderful pass as we poured forward in search of a fourth, but as he attempted to lift the ball over the advancing Prineg, the keeper managed to claw it away to safety. Nine minutes before half-time, however, a lovely piece of play by Colkett, who weaved away from a couple of challenges and buried his strike into the roof of the net, made it 4-0 to the Blues. The home side will have hoped it couldn't get any worse before the break, but a lovely, incisive move on the edge of the penalty area allowed Loftus-Cheek, who had raced on to a cushioned Brown pass, to roll it across the face of goal and give Solanke the easiest of finishes. == Second half == Viveash made two changes at the break, replacing the attacking pair of Solanke and Brown with Alex Kiwomya and Tammy Abraham. Brown's withdrawal saw the captain's armband handed to Aina. Abraham's impact was almost an instant one, the striker latching on to a clever Musonda flick, but he was denied by the feet of Prineg, with Dasilva's follow-up effort blocked by one of the retreating Maribor defenders. Colkett then saw a chance to secure his hat-trick go begging when, put clean through by Musonda, he attempted to chip Prineg who made the save. Our third and final substitution saw Kyle Scott replace Fikayo Tomori, which led to Loftus-Cheek dropping in alongside Christensen and Jake Clarke-Salter as one of the three defenders. With 20 minutes remaining the hosts were reduced to 10 men when Uskokovic was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Abraham, bringing his afternoon to a premature conclusion. It was the Blues making the majority of the running in the second half, although we were unable to offer as much of an attacking threat as we had prior to half-time. Scott tried his luck from the edge of the box after taking a Dasilva pass in his stride and drove his strike wide, but with nine minutes left to play we added a sixth. A quick break allowed Abraham to release Musonda, and the Belgian's cross fell invitingly for Kiwomya, who scored from close range. Colkett went close with a late looping header which dropped just over the bar, before Abraham put the seal on the win with a 90th-minute strike. It's now four wins from four for the young Blues.
