U18南區聯賽第七輪精華 http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/09/ under-18s-report--chelsea-v-brighton.html Under-18s report: Chelsea 2 Brighton 1 Sat 26 Sep 2015 Chelsea Under-18s came from behind to win at Cobham this morning (Saturday) and return to winning ways in the Under-18 Premier League. The Blues were behind at the break following Jordan Maguire-Drew's clever finish to break the deadlock eight minutes before half-time, however goals from Isaac Christie-Davies and Josh Grant turned the game around and ensured the youth team recorded all three points. There were seven changes from the side that were beaten at West Ham a week previously, with international action taking a number of regulars away from club duty. Captain Grant kept his place in defence alongside Richard Nartey and Cole Dasilva, while Alex Kozakis replaced Nathan Baxter in goal, with the latter having been involved in the Under-21 squad the previous evening. Ike Ugbo, who signed a first professional contract last week, returned from injury to lead the line up front. He was supported by Jacob Maddox and Dan Kemp from central areas as the Blues lined up in a 3-4-2-1 system. Charlie Wakefield, Luke McCormick, Christie-Davies and Harvey St Clair started across midfield. The game started in an even fashion in the autumnal Cobham sunshine, with Seagulls striker Maguire-Drew, the league's top goalscorer, lifting the ball narrowly over the crossbar after a few minutes when a bouncing ball had deceived the centre-backs. Down the other end, Maddox fashioned a sight at goal and drilled a shot towards the near post that visiting goalkeeper Robert Sanchez did well to turn away. Wakefield then beat the full-back on the outside and picked out St Clair with a great cross, yet the winger's low effort across the face of goal flew narrowly wide. The lively Maguire-Drew missed the target by inches with a curling effort having cut inside from the right channel, before the forward's left-footed free-kick took a slight deflection to fly behind for a corner, with Kozakis scrambling across his goal line. A period of midfield tactical battling followed, with neither goalkeeper particularly troubled, before Brighton grabbed the opener after 37 minutes. A hopeful forward pass released Maguire-Drew in behind and the striker produced a clever chipped finish to loft the ball over Kozakis and into the back of the net. The young Blues responded in the final exchanges of the half as Nartey hooked a shot towards goal that was comfortably gathered by Sanchez and then Ugbo went close to connecting to St Clair's header back across the box. The home side restarted brightly and ought to have levelled within 10 minutes as Kemp stood up a cross from the byline for Ugbo and the striker powered a header just off-target. However, just before the hour mark, the Blues were on level terms courtesy of a wonderful equaliser. Precise interplay saw advances from midfield before Christie-Davies combined brilliantly with Ugbo, receiving the ball back from the striker courtesy of a neat flick before slotting the ball neatly into the far corner via the inside of the post. It was the second time in two seasons Christie-Davies had netted against his former club. Within seven minutes, Edwards's side had added a second and took the lead for the first time in the game. A corner from the left was fizzed in dangerously and captain Grant rose highest at the far post to place a header into the top corner. Brighton responded and Maguire-Drew headed narrowly over before Remy Meyers connected to George Cox's corner but failed to trouble Kozakis. Ugbo saw an effort blocked as Chelsea tried to capitalise on some space in behind but it was the young Seagulls pushing for a late goal and they caused a series of problems with high balls into the Blues box. Yet the youngsters defended strongly and dug in to hold on to the lead and record the victory. == Manager reaction == After the game, Joe Edwards reflected on a morning in which his side showed good quality and a strong mentality. Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he said: 'We started quite poorly last week so we had placed a big emphasis on starting well today and I thought we did. 'We probably showed a bit of impatience with a young team out, maybe becoming a bit sloppy on the ball when things weren't working for us and that led to a difficult spell in which Brighton got their goal just before half-time. 'We spoke at the break about keeping patient, doing the simple things and not getting into a mode of chasing the game too early because we were confident of getting back into it. I felt the boys took that on board and it showed with the equaliser, which was a brilliant team goal and another great finish from Isaac. 'At the end, we needed that mentality to hold on to the points. You have to fight for results in the real game and defending set-pieces with bodies on the line is something we need to see from these young players, as well as the good football we play, so that was pleasing.' The youth team are back in league action next weekend when they travel to Tottenham on Saturday 3 October. Before then, our Under-19s face Porto in the UEFA Youth League this Tuesday 29 September.
