U18南區聯賽第九輪 https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/10/ under-18s-report--chelsea-v-swansea.html Under-18s report: Chelsea 5 Swansea City 0 Sat 10 Oct 2015 Our youth team made it three successive league wins to stay top of the south section in the Under-18 Premier League in emphatic finish at Cobham this morning (Saturday). Mukhtar Ali opened the scoring after 12 minutes and set the tone for a dominant display against the young Welshmen. Isaac Christie-Davies and Jacob Maddox put the hosts 3-0 up at the break and, despite a slow start to the second period, Maddox and substitute Malakai Hinckson-Mars netted late on to give the scoreline a convincing look. Edwards made six changes from the side that started last week's impressive away victory at Tottenham as international duty brought absences for the likes of Ruben Sammut and Ike Ugbo. Jared Thompson continued his return from injury by starting between the sticks and he was protected by a back four comprising captain Josh Grant, Joseph Colley, Richard Nartey and Cole Dasilva. Maddox led the line up front supported by Charlie Wakefield, Christie-Davies and Ali, while Trevoh Chalobah partnered Luke McCormick in central midfield. It was top-versus-bottom in the league but the young Swans gave a good account of themselves early on despite their precarious position in the league table. However, after a well-contested start, it was the Blues celebrating the lead after 12 minutes. McCormick won possession in midfield and set the hosts on the attack swiftly, with Dasilva combining with Ali before the midfielder spun expertly and finished into the bottom corner beyond the despairing dive of Lewis Thomas. The visitors responded well to going behind and threatened Thompson's goal on a number of occasions. Tom Dyson's shot was blocked by a brave header before Connor Quigley was twice thwarted and then Aaron Lewis missed the target by inches with a fierce rising drive. Down the other end, Maddox came close to doubling our advantage after a brilliant one-two exchange with Ali on the edge of the box, however Thomas raced off his line to make an impressive stop with his feet. Yet the visiting stopper was helpless moments later as Grant advanced in behind down the right flank and cut the ball back invitingly for the supporting Christie-Davies, who steered his finish into the bottom far corner. Chalobah came close to adding a sensational third with a thumping effort from 35 yards out that rebounded off the top of the crossbar and away to safety, before Maddox did extend the lead three minutes before the break. Grant turned provider again and the makeshift striker evaded the defender with his first touch before drilling the ball low past Thomas. The second half restarted in less eventful fashion, with Thomas's early save from Wakefield the only notable action during a quiet first 20 minutes. Substitute Dan Kemp sparked the game into life after his introduction, dazzling past two defenders before being brought down in the box. The winger picked himself up to take the spot-kick but his effort from 12 yards thumped back off the bar. Dasilva then tested Thomas cutting inside from the left before Maddox netted his second of the game, turning the ball in from close range after Grant's shot was parried away. Malakai Hinckson-Mars then added a late fifth, prodding the ball beyond Thomas for his first Under-18s goal as Grant assisted for the fourth time. == Manager reaction == After the game, Joe Edwards reflected on a dominant display from his side. Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he said: 'You could see in the opening stages that Swansea are a side who have been getting beat a lot recently and have been working defensively on their game. 'They were well-organised early on and were hard to break down so we had to persevere and keep moving the ball quickly. We put together some really good moves in the first half and obviously scored a few of them, but getting a clean sheet was pleasing as well because we targeted that beforehand after conceding too many goals of late. 'Overall it was a dominant performance. The back four were very good and Josh Grant was outstanding; he made some big tackles and then the threat he gave us going forward was massive. 'When you work teams defensively as hard as we did to Swansea today then it's going to tell at the end. We could have scored a lot more goals but it was great for Malakai to get his first Under-18s goal and for George McEachran to make his youth team debut so it's been another good day for us.' The youth team return to league action next Saturday 17 October when they travel to face Fulham. Before then, Adi Viveash's Under-21s host Benfica in their second group game in the Premier League International Cup. The game takes place on Friday 16 October at Aldershot Town.
