U18南區聯賽第14輪 https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/12/ under-18s-report--arsenal-2-chelsea-2.html Under-18s report: Arsenal 2 Chelsea 2 Sat 3 Dec 2016 Our unbeaten record in the Under-18 Premier League stretched to a 10th game away at Arsenal this morning, although Jody Morris's side were left disappointed as the Gunners came from 2-0 down with 15 minutes remaining to snatch a point. Ike Ugbo fired the hosts into the lead after just two minutes before Martell Taylor-Crossdale doubled our advantage on the hour mark. However, with the three points in sight, Arsenal halved the deficit with Eddie Nketiah's low finish before Joe Willock netted the equaliser from the penalty spot. Morris opted for a 4-4-2 shape with a diamond in midfield and was boosted by the inclusion of several players who have spent most of the season with Adi Viveash's development squad, with the FA Youth Cup third round looming later in the month. Dujon Sterling and Joseph Colley joined Marc Guehi and Josh Grant in defence, protecting Marcin Bulka in goal, while Ugbo and Taylor-Crossdale led the line up front. The attacking pair came into the derby with a combined 19 goals between them this campaign. Luke McCormick lined up at the base of the diamond, with Jacob Maddox, Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount ahead of him. Morris's men were in front with less than two minutes played, a perfect start at a ground the youngsters hadn't won at for over three years. Ugbo picked up possession on the left and advanced infield before curling a strike into the bottom far corner for the opener. The first half saw chances down both ends of the field, with Bulka saving from Donyell Malen and then instinctively clutching for the ball as Nketiah tried to round him towards goal. Taylor-Crossdale came close to doubling our lead with 17 minutes played, benefiting from some wonderful dribbling and direct running from Maddox on the break. The striker's effort beat Joao Virginia, the Arsenal goalkeeper, but bounced back off the post. Bulka did well to hold on to a free-kick struck fiercely by Joshua Da Silva before Virginia denied Taylor-Crossdale following some positive build-up play from Sterling and Ugbo down the right. Mount and Maddox in particular were setting the high-pressing tone for the visitors and the former fashioned an opportunity for himself to strike at goal after stealing possession high, though his shot ultimately flew high and wide of the upright. Arsenal were improved after the restart and enjoyed their strongest spell in the opening 15 minutes of the second half. Willock fired a free-kick straight at the keeper, Nketiah shot high over the crossbar and Joseph Olowu headed wide at the back post from a corner, before the Blues made it 2-0. It was probably the first attack the visitors had mustered in the second period as Ugbo found a pass to Gallagher in the box and the midfielder was bundled to the ground, though his appeals for a penalty fell on deaf ears. However, Taylor-Crossdale spent little time protesting and got on with the business of scoring, latching on to the loose ball and firing into the net on the spin. Gallagher shot inches wide of the far post but the Gunners continued to carry a threat to our goal as Colley made a crucial block to thwart Nketiah before Da Silva dragged an effort wide of the far post when positioned well and centrally. The lead was cut in half with 15 minutes remaining, Willock finding Nketiah and the striker using his quick feet to work space in the box before finding the corner with a smart low finish. It was a goal which flooded hope into the ranks of the home side and they levelled the scores six minutes later. Substitute Nathan Tella gave Colley a headache with his pace bursting into the box and the Sweden youth international was guilty of a clumsy challenge as he swung a leg at the ball. The referee didn't hesitate to point to the spot and Willock stepped up to beat Bulka via the inside of the post. The Blues responded well and it was the visitors most likely to snatch a winner late on, although the closest they came was a shot from Ugbo blocked behind well by a defender and Mount's drive which flew straight into the hands of Virginia. Morris's side remain top of the Under-18 Premier League south section with their final league game of the calendar year next weekend at home to Norwich City. They then host Cardiff City in the Youth Cup on Tuesday 13 December.
