Jubilo hit Hoang Anh for six Mar 16, 2005 Footballasia.com Jubilo Iwata 6 Hoang Anh Gai Lia 0 AFC Champions League - Group E JAPAN - Korean World Cup striker Choi Yong-soo and Brazilian forward Rodrigo Gral claimed a brace apiece as Jubilo Iwata strolled to a 6-0 win over Vietnam's Hoang anh Gia Lai in Group E of the AFC Champions League at Yamaha Stadium on Wednesday night. Japan Under-20 international Bobby Cullen and Norihiro Nishi were also on the score sheet as the 1999 Asian Club Champions atoned for last week's 1-0 defeat at the hands of Shenzhen Jianlibao and pushed themselves back into the running for a place in the tournament's quarter-finals. "I was pretty happy with the way the young players tonight," said Jubilo manager Masakuni Yamamoto. "They took the opportunity on this occasion to appeal for a place in the first team and they showed an aggressive performance. "We got goals from the people who were supposed to score them and I hope that this result can help us get going, not only in this tournament but also in the J.League as well." Jubilo have had a shaky start to the season both domestically and at con- tinental level and went into the game off the back of a 3-0 J.League defeat at the hands of Nagoya Grampus Eight. But, after a cagey opening, Jubilo were soon in control, Nishi giving his side the lead in the 23rd minute after Choi held off the Hoang defence to allow the Japan international the time and space to pick his spot. Six minutes later Choi's full-stretch header doubled the lead after Hiroshi Nanami's corner, and, such was Jubilo's dominance, Hoang were fortunate to only trail by a pair of goals. Jubilo's lead was extended soon after the break as Choi struck right-footed from 25 yards 13 minutes after the restart to make it 3-0 and nine minutes later Gral, the Korean's replacement, scored Iwata's fourth with a goal from similar distance. Cullen made it 5-0 with 14 minutes to go, tapping in from close range after a never-say-die run by Shinji Murai down the left side was followed up by a cross that found the 19-year-old unmarked three meters from the goal line. And, as time ran out, Gral added his side's sixth and his second of the night, also slotting into an empty net as the Hoang defence had all but given up. "Jubilo definitely deserved to win because they are a good side with high quality players," said Hoang manager Nguyen Van Vinh.
