Calleri's Career Honoured In Buenos Aires

It was a special day for Agustin Calleri at the Copa Telmex on Wednesday as
the 33 year old was honoured for a 12-year career which saw him reach No. 16
on the South African Airways ATP Rankings and earn $3.7 million in prize
money.
Calleri won two ATP World Tour singles titles (from eight finals) at 2003
Acapulco and 2006 Kitzbuhel and three doubles crowns, including his home town
event of Buenos Aires in 2008. He posted a 209-187 record in his pro career
which began in 1997; he played his final professional match last July.
On Wednesday he was joined on Estadio Central for a retirement ceremony by
tournament director and Argentinian former Top 10 player Martin Jaite, along
with current local stars including Juan Monaco, Jose Acasuso and Juan Ignacio
Chela.
"It's very nice to receive this recognition from Martin Jaite and Copa
Telmex," said Calleri. "I thank my friends, coaches and staff that have
helped me to achieve everything I have in tennis. I will miss the tour but
hopefully will keep in touch with the many friends I have made."
Jose Acasuso paid tribute to his Davis Cup team-mate: "Agustin has been a
great friend of mine for a long time. He has had a great tennis career and
outside the court has always been there for his friends."
Tournament director Martin Jaite: "Agustin has given a lot for the
Argentinian tennis. He has played nine of 10 editions of the Copa Telmex and
also represented our country at Davis Cup every time he was needed. He is an
extraordinary player and friend that will be missed on the circuit."
Calleri married his wife Cecilia in December 2003; they have one daughter,
Sara, aged three.
