我猜測作者是想表達

九月份的成績不是曇花一現"
這樣的意涵
不過文字上沒有足夠的跡象就是了

我想你搞錯我的意思了
我的意思是那段可以翻譯成：
(I think it will determine how far they go this year.)
「我想這一點是個關鍵，這將會決定今年這支球隊能夠走得多遠。」
↓
「我認為這將是決定這球隊今年能有多少進展的關鍵。」
這樣的差異當然不是誰對誰錯
因為事實上你並沒翻錯
所以我傾向不寫出來以免讓人覺得我什麼都在挑
但在翻譯的過程中
不同語言的用字邏輯應該盡量的能省去或轉換以免造成讀者混淆

this did not really matter if you had turned it into a Chinese way or not.
cuz both two language users use the same rhetoric way giving the "go away"
a abstract implication--progressing.
