Danny Blind new head coach of Ajax
Amsterdam, March 14, 2005
Danny Blind is the new head coach of Ajax as of right now. Blind succeeds
Ronald Koeman, who resigned on Friday 25 February.
Blind was the coach of the A-juniors of Ajax and, since February 2003, head
of youth development at the club. The A1 won two national titles under Blind's
guidance (2002 and 2004).
The active career of the now 43-year old Blind is most impressive. He came to
Ajax from Sparta in July of 1987. He assembled a resume that is unique in
international football. Blind won all possible trophies at club level.
Danny Blind, born in Oost-Souburg, Zeeland, won five Dutch championships with
Ajax (1990,1994, 1995, 1996 and 1998), three national cups (1987, 1993 and 1998
) and just as many Dutch Super Cups (1993, 1994 and 1995).
With Ajax, defender Danny Blind played a major role on the European front. In
1995, Ajax, with Blind as the captain, captured the Champions League, preceeded
by winning the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1987 and the UEFA Cup in 1992. On
his list of trophies are also the World Cup (1995) and a European Super Cup.
He also won three Amsterdam Tournaments with Ajax (1987, 1991 and 1992).
Danny Blind is among the select few to play more than 500 matches in the Dutch
league. He played 372 league matches for Ajax, 38 cup matches and 74 European
matches. In 493 official matches for Ajax, Danny Blind scored 36 goals.
Blind was capped 42 times for Holland. He scored one goal in those matches.
