Ferrari arrives at Everton
Italy defender Matteo Ferrari has arrived at Everton FC just in time to solve
the English club's defensive crisis, while Netherlands winger Andy van der
Meyde has agreed to join him at Goodison Park next week.
Pistone blow
The 25-year-old Ferrari has moved to Everton on a 12-month loan from AS Roma
with a view to a permanent €5.4m transfer next summer. He signs on the day
the club announced that compatriot Alessandro Pistone could miss the rest of
Everton's season with knee ligament damage. The 30-year-old full-back was
injured in last week's victory at Bolton Wanderers FC.
Van der Meyde pending
Meanwhile, Van der Meyde is due to have a medical over the weekend after
Everton reached agreement with both Inter and the 25-year-old former AFC Ajax
player for his switch to Merseyside.
'Happy to be here'
Ferrari, who played 35 Serie A games for Roma last season after previous spells
with Parma FC and Inter, is delighted to have a chance to impress in the
Premiership. "I am a fan of English football and am very glad to be here.
Everton have shown so much confidence in me and that is why I am happy to be
here."
