The Suns would welcome scoring aggression in the second unit but feel Brooks
is a solid playmaker anyway, particularly with pick-and-rolls.

Brooks underwent a physical Friday in Phoenix and is expected to fly to
Indianapolis on Saturday and play for the Suns against the Indiana Pacers on
Sunday. His play has been hampered by a left-ankle sprain this season and
kept him out for 21 consecutive games.

"If we can get him healthy and acclimated, he'll score the ball for us,"
guard Steve Nash said.

Coach Alvin Gentry said Brooks will give him an opportunity to rest Nash more

"Aaron will be a little more aggressive offensively," Gentry said in
comparison with Goran Dragic, whom the Suns traded to Houston with a
first-round pick for Brooks. "We want him to be. One of the things we've
lacked on the second unit is consistent scoring or guys who have been able to
attack the basket.

"It gave us an opportunity to get a guy who had proven himself already from a

Brooks was the 2009-10 NBA Most Improved Player when he averaged 19.6 points
and 5.3 assists in 82 starts but has been mostly a reserve this season with
his shooting falling to 34.6 percent. Suns co-captains Grant Hill and Nash
were consulted about the trade before it was made.

Before the game, Gentry said, "The greatest thing to me is he's trying like
crazy. He comes in early. He's worked at it. When you're a guy that's
depended on your athletic ability, eventually somewhere along the line you're
going to lose some of that. But from the effort he gives us and the
leadership he gives us and the way he tries to help everybody, he's been good
for our team.
