Despite a lockout, the NBA released its preseason schedule Thursday, with the first game set for Oct. 9. The league did so "in the event that the NBA is able to reach a new collective bargaining agreement with the NBPA in a timely fashion," according to a statement. A preseason that starts on time -- or perhaps even happens at all -- seems unlikely given the gap between the sides more than a month and a half into the lockout. They have had one full negotiating session since and would probably need a deal by the middle of September to avoid having to cancel exhibition games. Already scrapped were the usual exhibitions played overseas, which the league decided not to schedule this year given the possibility of a work stoppage. The preseason would start with five games Oct. 9 and run through Oct. 28. The regular season opener is scheduled for Nov. 1. The Suns are to play seven exhibition games, with three at home, three on the road and one at a neutral site. The team's full preseason schedule: Oct. 11: Clippers at Suns , 7 p.m. Oct. 15: Suns at Portland Trail Blazers, 7 p.m. Oct. 17: Suns vs. Portland at Vancouver, British Columbia, 7 p.m. Oct. 18: Suns at Golden State Warriors, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20: Nuggets at Suns, 7 p.m. Oct. 23: Suns at Nuggets, 7 p.m. Oct. 25: Oklahoma City Thunder at Suns, 7 p.m. This will be the third consecutive year the Suns play a preseason game in Canada. However, it's also the first time in three years they won't play the outdoor game at the Indian Wells, Calif., tennis facility. TNT is scheduled to show two preseason games in October, including the Oct. 20 matchup between the Miami heat and the Memphis Grizzlies. The network will also show the Oct. 27 game between the Lakers and the Clippers from Bakersfield, Calif.
