Both intend to re-sign with New Orleans later this month, their agents said Friday. The Hornets and Andersen, a 6-foot-10 backup center, have agreed to a four-year deal, said agent Steven Heumann. Nachbar, a 6-9 small forward, plans to accept a three-year deal, said agent Herb Rudoy. Hornets general manager Allan Bristow said, under rules set by the NBA, he couldn't discuss any free-agent offers until July 22, when free agents can sign contracts. Andersen, who flaps his arms like bird wings after dunks to excite fans, is one of the Hornets' most popular players. He signed as a free agent with the team before last season after spending three seasons with the Denver Nuggets. Andersen played in 67 games and averaged 7.7 points and 6.1 rebounds. For most of the season, Coach Byron Scott raved about how hard Andersen played when he came off the bench. Andersen opted out of his contract at the end of the season to test free agency, and there was speculation that he was interested in going back to the Nuggets. In the end, Andersen wanted to come back to New Orleans and finish what he started, Heumann said. Three others who played with the Hornets last season -- guards Dan Dickau and Casey Jacobsen and forward Lee Nailon -- are also free agents. Teams could begin negotiating with free agents at 12:01 a.m. Friday. "There were a number of teams that called me at midnight, but Boki's (Nachbar) intention from the beginning was not to leave New Orleans," Rudoy said. "Several other teams saw the same kind of potential, but he told me that he didn't want to talk to anybody else. He wanted to come back to New Orleans. He loves living there and playing for Coach (Scott)." Nachbar was obtained in a midseason trade from the Houston Rockets. He played in 55 games with the Hornets and averaged 8.1 points and 2.8 rebounds. He started four games. It's likely the Hornets will pursue another small forward in free agency. But I know one situation that I want is a chance to start." Dickau said he's hired a personal trainer to help get him stronger. "I think anybody would want that opportunity to start, so I'm still open to the opportunity to come back to New Orleans," Dickau said. "Coach Scott is definitely a guy who has helped my career a lot. Allan has been up front and has said they want me back. But I have to see what else is out there." Catholic, he was arrested for allegedly eluding police and assaulting another student. He impressed Hornets coaches in a pre-draft workout last month. . . .
