Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels joined Richie and Greggo on 105.3 FM The Fan on Friday to talk about Rangers Fan Fest and the upcoming season. Here are some highlights from the interview. On whether there is work still left to do before the season: “We’re still looking at the rotation as an area that we could upgrade. We’ ve got the four guys with Darvish, Harrison, Ogando and Holland. You’ve got Colby Lewis coming back sometime in May or June, I don’t know. But there’s still a risk there when you’ve got a guy coming back off of surgery. … Perfect world, we could add another veteran guy that you feel real good about stepping into that spot and then when Colby comes back you’ve got a great situation on our hands.” “I don’t anticipate any major acquisitions in the outfield going forward.” On whiffing on major free agent targets like Zach Greinke and Josh Hamilton: “Shields is another guy we had looked at and we just weren’t willing to put in the piece and pieces that it cost and so after that we just said you know what, let’s try to evaluate where we’re at, really take stock of where we are and look at it against our commitment to our fans and our owners and the players that we’re going to be in this thing every year. We’re going to be a contending club with a legitimate chance to win and not just win but win the whole thing every year.” On the strategy going forward with Jurickson Profar and Mike Olt: “(Profar and Olt) may never go down. Things happen in Spring Training that you can’t predict. Things happen over the season that you can’t predict. I feel very good about both guys future with the Rangers. That may start opening day, that may start later during the year. I don’t know, honestly. These things are better off, in my opinion, just to happen naturally. Let nature run its course so to speak with these guys. Let them go out there and compete. Let them earn their jobs. I think that takes some pressure off of them. I think that they then earn their stripes among their teammates and other folks in the game.” “At the end of the day is anybody 100 percent untouchable? No. You can’t take that mentality. But certain guys that you think are going to be core players for a long period of time, you’ve got to be pretty careful about when and if you talk about them. And that’s how we view these guys we think that they have that kind of ability and makeup.” On if the expectations of World Series or bust should be tempered this season: “I think the best team the last three or four years was last year. I think that was our most talented club top to bottom, and it was also our least accomplished team.
