Francis has led the Magic (5-3) through this surprising, early season resurgence, averaging team highs in scoring (21.5 ppg) and assists (6.4 apg), along with an impressive 8.3 rebounds. He also is averaging a career-high 4.4 turnovers. With his speed in this up-tempo offense has come his mistakes. It's part of the package. "We need to make better decisions with the ball," Francis said Thursday after practice. "Hopefully, we can turn it [the turnover number] down a bit." Francis had a season-high 33 points, nine rebounds and 11 assists in Wednesday night's victory against the Utah Jazz, but he also matched his season high with seven turnovers, including six in the first half. He was second in the NBA last season in turnovers and his hard-charging style makes turnovers almost inevitable, but don't expect Magic Coach Johnny Davis to slow him. "Turnovers sometimes are going to happen with a guy who is as aggressive, as relentless, as he is," Davis said. "I want him to continue with that aggressiveness. I don't want him to tone it down, just be more efficient." After playing in a slowdown attack last season in Houston, Francis is thrilled with the Magic's fast-break style of play. In the first five years of his NBA career, he averaged 3.7 turnovers. His season high was 3.8 turnovers in 2001-2002. In the first eight games of this season, he has had seven turnovers twice. Both times the Magic won. "Steve is what we call our catalyst," Davis said. "He's pushing the ball, igniting us on the fast break. When he's doing that, we're a much better team.
