Originally drafted out of high school by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round (29th pick overall) of the 1999 NBA Draft, Smith played with the Great Lakes Storm in the Continental Basketball Association this season. He was named to the CBA All-Star Game and the CBA All-Defensive Team while averaging 13.7 points and 9.8 rebounds in 19 games. He has also played with the Gary Steelheads of the CBA during the 2001-02 season, when he averaged 16.8 points and 15.2 rebounds in 28 games. Smith, who played 14 games with the Atlanta Hawks during the 2001-02 season, is expected to join the team for tonight's game in San Antonio. http://www.tribnet.com/sports/basketball/sonics/story/4961001p-4889576c.html Leon, we hardly knew ya FRANK HUGHES; The News Tribune Leon Smith's season, and possibly career, as a forward with the Seattle SuperSonics was short lived. With injured forward Vladimir Radmanovic able to play after recovering from an ankle injury, the Sonics placed Smith on the injured list, which means he did not play Monday night against Houston and is not eligible to play against the Los Angeles Clippers in the season finale Wednesday. It remains to be seen if the Sonics will bring Smith back next season. Sonics coach Nate McMillan said he thinks Smith has an NBA body. But McMillan said he does not know how Smith would fare over an entire season until he gets with a coach who will help him with this footwork. McMillan said Smith could be invited to participate in the Sonics' summer league. Smith played two minutes in one game for Seattle, scoring two points and grabbing two rebounds. A week ago, Radmanovic said he thought he was done for the season because he did not see the sense in risking further injuring his ankle since the Sonics had nothing to play for. But Radmanovic felt good enough to play Monday, and though McMillan said he did not know how he would use the 6-foot-10 forward, Radmanovic played 27 minutes and scored 21 points. A few "highlights" - Before the game, eight Sonics players were in the locker room watching a highlight tape from the season put together by video coordinator Walt Rock. A cynic might suggest that it was a short tape, but the players had a good time making fun of one another, as well as some of the players who were dunked upon -- "posterized," in NBA vernacular. Ah, 10 years ago - Wednesday marks the 10-year anniversary of the only time in franchise history that 10 players have scored in double figures in one game. The feat occurred in a 150-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. KO'd countryman - In what was an altogether jovial locker room before the game, several players had fun at the expense of Ukrainian Vitaly Potapenko, whose countryman, Wladimir Klitschko, was knocked out by journeyman Lamon Brewster in Las Vegas on Saturday night. It begins - An airplane flew around KeyArena before the game dragging a banner that read: Go Sonics. Fire Wally Walker.
