Best in the West? Timberwolves’ Jefferson

Al Jefferson reached a career high when he scored 39 points in Wednesday’s
victory over Phoenix, then topped it by one in Sunday’s chaotic comeback
victory over New Jersey. And so…the NBA named him its Western Conference
Player of the Week for the week that ended Sunday.
Jefferson led the Wolves to their first winning streak (two games) of the
season and their first winning week (3-1) of the season and averaged 28.8
points and 12.8 rebounds doing so. He had double-double games in points and
rebounds in those three victories over Golden State, the Suns and the Nets.
The Wolves’ lone loss came by a point Friday at Boston.
Orlando’s Hedo Turkoglu was named the East’s Player of the Week.
Also on Monday, Wolves rookie Chris Richard headed after practice to the team
’s Sioux Falls, S.D., affiliate for some seasoning rather than sit on the
bench. He had not played in any of the Wolves’ last five games.
Randy Foye practiced up and down the court Monday with hist teammates for
more than 45 minutes and looked good, according to Randy Wittman. Foye said
he thinks he could be ready to play in a game within a week’s time.
