Is this a huge story, a moderate story or a nothing story??

Hi everybody. I have been a Jazz fan since the Jazz's first or second year in
SLC. My first favorite player was Ricky Green. This is my first post and I am
not sure or proficient in forum etiquette yet so forgive me if I make a few
mistakes. Anyway I for one am very concerned that even if the Jazz make the
finals this year or next year, that they will not be allowed to win. I have
been concerned with the officiating since I watched my first playoff series,
in the Jazz's second or third year in Salt Lake City. Frank Layden was the
coach and the Mark Eaton was on the team and Adrian Dantley was the big star.
I don't believe Karl Malone was on the team. Anyway the Jazz played the Los
Angeles lakers in a first round series with home court to the Lakers. I in my
niaievete felt the Jazz might win the series. This was back when Majic,
Kareem, Worthy, etc. were in "Showtime" mode. The Jazz lost the first game in
a huge blowout. Lost by 30 points or something and never made a game of it.
They lost the second also if I remember, but back in Salt Lake the Jazz blew
out the Lakers, for two games and it looked like they had a chance going back
to Los Angeles. Again forgive me if I my memory is faulty on a few details,
because the point is, back in Los Angeles the Jazz didn't have the slightest
chance. It was 5 against 8 all the way. Mark Eaton fouled out it seemed in
the 3rd quarter. The Jazz couldn't "breathe" on the Lakers yet the lakers
could take an arm off without a call. I was scratching my head and I realized
that the game was called so one sided it was obvious the NBA wanted the
Lakers to win. I have been very jaded since then. I know all of you have
watched games where by the end of the first quarter you know the refs are not
going to let the Jazz win. I have considered the fact that I am just a "Jazz
Homer" and my emotions may cloud my vision at times, just like all fans.
However there isn't any disputing or speculating or difference of opinion,
that in the 96 finals with the Chicago Bulls that the Jazz spotted an
extremely good Bulls team 6 points in the 5th and final game. Game film
positively shows (no subjective difference of opinion on what is and isn't a
foul) that a 3 point shot by Howard Eisley was waived off as being over the
24 second clock, and a shot by Ron Harper that was clearly over the 24 second
clock was counted as good.
This was further evidence in my mind at least that it was better for the
NBA, if the Bulls won. It kept the Jordon mystique alive. Keeping the
mystique alive would draw in more fans from around the world. Draw in casual
viewers etc. etc. Which would help the pocketbooks of the owners etc. etc.
Thats why I am asking, is the NBA fixed. Is the head of the NBA, David Stern
fixing games or biasing the reffereeing of games to improve cash flow, direct
the playoffs towards the large market teams, or at the very least the teams
with Marquee name players?
When we watch other sports leagues, such as baseball and basketball, all
leagues have trouble with officiating, however the trouble is with
incompetant or incorrect officiating, not biased officiating. In fact the
other leaques protect the integrity of the game fiercely because they know
that if the public ever believed that the fix was in, it could collapse their
support and possibly their sport. For instance the Chicago Black Sock
Scandal, the Pete Rose Betting scandal, the steroid controversy.
I know a lot of you are saying, BS. Thats just homerism on my part with
regards to the Jazz. But maybe not. I have read about Mark Cuban this past
summer, and I can't believe nobody else has brought it up or talked about it.
According to a Hoopsworld report, Mark Cuban had long talks this summer with
David Stern in an effort to keep Cuban from throwing up his hands and selling
the team. Cuban stated that he was thinking of selling the team because there
was too much administrative trivia or BS. However the timing( right after the
finals) seems highly suspect. Also earlier this year Cuban reportedly got
into a spat with Dwayne Wade, in the media, with reqards to Nowitski's
leadership. Cuban reportedly wrote that he greatly admired Wade's skills at
shooting free throws. My read between the lines take on the situation is that
Cuban was incensed that the leaque drug out the Mavs-Heat finals last year by
slanting the officiating towards Miami after the Heat went up two games to
none. And I felt the same way, and also a little sorry for the Mavs. It
seemed the refs were in the "you breath towards Wade and your gonna be called
for the foul mode". I think Cuban was incensed and decided to sell the team
and maybe just mouth off about his feelings to the media. He was quoted as
saying that the public "didn't even know 1/10 of what happened in last years
finals". So did Stern assure him that this year is the Mav's year.
And not to sell the team. What is happening?
Is it a huge story, that needs to come to light? Would it be huge if indeed
the head of the NBA, (David Stern) is nudging the games to the correct
markets for the bottom line of the league?
It seems that way to me. What do you guy's and gals think?
