accurate translation of Neuer’s original quotation in German would be: “I
only watched the shot from Lampard, grabbed the ball quickly and continued to
play. If I had looked to the right and left, maybe the referee would have
thought about it. Maybe because of that I contributed to the fact that he didn
’t give the goal.” His actual remarks, therefore, suggest that he was not
completely certain that the ball had crossed the line — and only became
convinced when he saw the replay in the doping control room after the match.
