Ellis will stay with A's
Infielder ready to sign off on multiyear deal

Unlike many of the team's prominent free agents in recent years, Mark Ellis
will be staying in Oakland. The second baseman is set to sign a multiyear deal
with the A's, and an announcement is expected in the next day or two.
"I'm very excited," Ellis, 31, said by phone from his Arizona home Saturday.
"Oakland has been a very good place for me and my family, and it's really a big
relief to be back there."
Ellis, who could have declared free agency after the World Series, had
arthroscopic shoulder surgery last month and had been concerned that might
affect his value on the open market. Instead, he will be just the third player
in the Billy Beane era that the A's have signed beyond his first free-agent
season, joining outfielder Jermaine Dye, who got a three-year deal with an
option year in 2002, and third baseman Eric Chavez, who signed a six-year,
$66-million extension in 2004.
All the other prominent A's players of the past decade have left as free agents
(Jason Giambi, Miguel Tejada, Barry Zito, Jason Isringhausen, Johnny Damon) or
have been traded before free agency (Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, Dan Haren, Nick
Swisher, Rich Harden and Joe Blanton, among others).
Though he said it might be looking too far ahead, Ellis said, "To play in
Oakland my whole career would be great. Not a lot of people get to do that in
this game."
Along with the bone chips in his right shoulder, which cut short his season by
more than a month, Ellis had subpar offensive numbers, batting .233 with 12
homers and 41 RBIs. The team, young and largely inexperienced after five major
trades, went 75-86.
"I know it wasn't a very good year for anyone in the organization, myself
included," Ellis said. "But I'm very proud to be a part of this organization
and I'm excited about things here - not to sound like a total cheeseball, but
you see what the Rays have done this year and what the Rockies did last year,
and it's not out of line to think we can compete and do well soon. We have a
lot of young pitchers on our staff, but they've got the stuff to be pretty
good. Look how quickly things snowballed for Tampa Bay."
Ellis said that he didn't talk to A's general manager Billy Beane about
bringing in an additional bat this offseason, "but I think that's his
intention," Ellis said. "And with the guys we have back and if Eric (Chavez) is
healthy, even one more bat would be outstanding."
Could that bat be someone like former A's first baseman Giambi?
"Jason is a really good player and he would be perfect for this team, with his
personality and his ability," Ellis said. "He'd add sock to this lineup. I
don't think anyone on our team would object to (signing) Jason."
Ellis declined to discuss the terms of the pending deal, but it's expected to
be at least two years with a possible option year.
還沒正式的宣布不過看來是差不多了^^
明年有小愛+如果有的技安比+Chavez(對不起我在幻想)
這才是A's啊!!!!
