Bats: Both Throws: Right Report Date(s): 03/07 - 03/09/08 Game(s): Boston College mlb.com Focus Area Comments Hitting Ability: Weeks is a line-drive, slashing type of hitter who squares the ball up well and can really get things going with leadoff-type skills. Power: He's got a little pop, but it's not likely to be a big part of his game as a pro. Running Speed: He's got above-average speed, though a groin problem has hampered him some in the past. Base running: He's a very aggressive runner and should be an above-average base stealer as a result. Arm Strength: He's got a below-average arm and kind of flips the ball when he throws. Fielding: His hands are a bit stiff, with some feeling a move to center field will be in order. Range: His best defensive tool, Weeks has above-average range thanks to his foot speed. Physical Description: Weeks has a lean, small frame; a live, athletic body. Medical Update: A groin injury plagued him last year, but he's 100 percent now. Strengths: Above-average speed; good line-drive approach at plate; excellent bloodlines. Weaknesses: His defense at second and his physical strength (or lack thereof). Summary: Even though he plays the same position as his older brother, Rickie, Jemile is not the same kind of player. He doesn't have, and likely will never have, the kind of power Rickie does. He runs extremely well and with a line-drive approach, could be a good table setter. His defense is somewhat in question, but a move to center would fix that. The Brewers drafted Weeks in the eighth round in 2005 and it's clear that it was more than just a favor to his brother. pgcrosschecker: SCOUTING REPORT (3/1): Weeks gave every indication of following in his brother Rickie’s footsteps and becoming a future first-rounder after a strong freshman season at Miami. He hit .352-6-40, scored 69 runs and led the Atlantic Coast Conference with nine triples. He also excelled for Team USA that summer, hitting .343-4-21 with a team-high 14 stolen bases. But 2007 was somewhat of a lost year for Weeks, who was bothered all season by a groin injury, which caused him to miss a number of games and impaired his ability to run. He slumped to .298-5-27 with just seven stolen bases and was forced to cancel a return engagement with Team USA in order to get healthy. Jemile has solid tools across the board but he is a different player than his brother, the second overall pick in 2003 and now the second baseman for the Milwaukee Brewers. Whereas Rickie was stronger, faster and more compact at the same stage of development, Jemile is leaner and a more skilled defender. He more similarly resembles a younger version of Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins. Weeks lacks the arm strength for shortstop, but his hands, range, instincts, positioning and ability to turn the double play make him a polished defender at second. He also has upside at the plate. He has a short, quick swing and his bat speed is the equal of any player on Miami’s power-laden roster, but he’s not viewed as a power-type hitter. If anything, his swing is a little long and not conducive to wood, meaning he’ll need to become a more all-around ,contact-oriented offensive player to make things happen.—ALLAN SIMPSON UPDATE: Weeks has been healthy alls spring and at the top of his game. He actually out-hit his teammate Yonder Alonso most of the spring, before being passed in May, and has more extra-base hits (29, while batting .375-10-48 overall with 16 SB through mid-May), although pitchers clearly don’t fear him nearly as much. Because Weeks is so much like his brother Rickie, it might ironically work against Jemile that his brother has struggled to hit in the major leagues.—DAVID RAWNSLEY BA: Scouting Report The brother of Brewers second baseman Rickie, Weeks is an accomplished middle infielder with above-average athleticism. Drafted out of high school by the Brewers in the eighth round in 2005, Weeks elected to attend Miami instead. He competed on the U.S. college national team following his freshman and sophomore seasons and was named as a preseason All-American by BA coming into the year. A switch-hitter and plus runner, Weeks has the unique ability to put pressure on the defense with his speed on the basepaths. Although he is just 5-feet-9, 180 pounds, he is not limited to small ball as he has quick wrists and plus bat speed, allowing him to hit for power as well. Defensively, Weeks has shown flashes of making the spectacular play but needs to become more consistent with the routine play. Also, his ability to turn the double play needs improvement. In the pros, Weeks profiles as an offensive second baseman with less power than his brother but a better chance to stay in the middle of the diamond. He and Gordon Beckham are the most athletic college position players expected to be drafted in the first 50 picks. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/W/Jemile-Weeks.shtml age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg FLD% 2006 Miami 19 NCAA 256 90 18 8 6 13 7 37 27 .352 .446 .555 2007 Miami 20 NCAA 188 56 9 6 5 7 1 27 27 .298 .393 .489 2008 Miami 21 NCAA 216 79 16 5 11 19 1 30 36 .366 .447 .639 .964 http://hurricanesports.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/stats/2007-2008/teamcume.html -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 210.208.50.48 ※ 編輯: ThomasHSNU 來自: 210.208.50.48 (06/07 23:44)
