We were very surprised to see Schroder clear waivers at the end of August. The A's declined to add him then, but they think he's worth a 40-man roster spot now. Schroder has a 4.46 ERA in 78 2/3 career innings in the NL, but that comes with 85 strikeouts and a 1.28 WHIP. He could be quite useful in the middle innings for an Oakland pen that figures to be very inexperienced. Apr. 8, 2009 - 3:40 p.m. ET Athletics designated RHP Chris Schroder for assignment. Schroder's departure makes room on the 40-man roster for newly-acquired reliever Dan Giese.
