Suzuki thanks Oakland in statement
After being traded to the Washington Nationals, Kurt Suzuki issued a statement
to his former franchise, city and fanbase.
I would like to thank the Oakland A’s organization for eight memorable years.
They gave me the opportunity to fulfill my dream of playing in the big leagues
and for that I am eternally grateful. To all of my coaches, teammates,
clubhouse staff and members of the media, the bonds that we’ve made during my
time here will always be cherished and never be forgotten. I’d also like to
thank the City of Oakland and the greater Bay Area for embracing me and my
family as one of your own. Last but not certainly not least, I’d like to
thank the Oakland A’s fans for supporting me during my career.
Aloha -
Kurt Suzuki

Kurt Suzuki:
“I was a little shocked. But I’ll get to play every day. I feel like it’s
the best thing for me.”
“The fans have been great to me since I came up. I’m going to miss them.
They always gave me great support through good and bad. There are some great
diehard fans here.”
"I would be lying if I said there wasn't a little bit of sadness, because of
all the relationships I have built.I call the guys that work in the clubhouse
my brothers, my teammates that I have built relationships with, the coaching
staff. Everyone on that staff, (manager) Bob Melvin and I have become close.
It is emotional leaving that (Oakland) clubhouse, but I look forward to working
with the Nationals and help them go to the postseason."
Brandon McCarthy:
"Sad to see @kurtsuzuki go. Just a fantastic catcher and even better person.
Can't thank him enough for all he did for me."
Jarrod Parker:
"Rough day losing @kurtsuzuki one of the best guys I ever played with & met in
this game I've learned so much from him he will be missed."
“Shocked, obviously. Kurt took me under his wing when I got here, like the
other young (pitchers) without much experience, and made my transition easier.
I attribute success I’ve had to him. It sucks, but it’s the nature of the
beast.”
Norris:
"That's the type of guy he is. We had a great relationship when he was here.
He was teaching me everything I need to know about calling a game. I called
him on my way down here today to wish him luck, and he gave me a little advice,
and I told him a bit about the team he's going to."
Brett Anderson:
“He was such an integral part of our team on and off the field, especially
for a guy like me who throws a lot of balls in the dirt. We’ve got ‘Ninja’
back there. He’s the most agile catcher I’ve ever seen.”
