This month's Chelsea features another new president, equally delighted to be where he is. Not Barack Obama, but Lord Attenborough, who was last month named an Honorary Life President of Chelsea FC. There are few people who can provide anecdotes on Steve McQueen, the RAF and training with Tommy Lawton all in one interview, but then there are very few to have lived the life that Attenborough has enjoyed. We came to games together and he would wear a hat and glasses, disguising himself so nobody knew who he was.' These days Attenborough remains busy, as the patron of a number of charities and with a keen interest in the film industry, but there is one role that fills him with the most pleasure - the one at Chelsea. 'I am over the moon,' he smiles. 'I've won many awards in my life and been very fortunate, but I've got to say this makes me the most proud. I am humbled to be the Life President of such a fantastic football club.' Lord Attenborough isn't alone in looking back this month, and Chelsea catches up with cult hero Mark Stein, now a physio at Barnet. During his time at the Bridge, the diminutive forward struck 25 goals in 63 games, including a record-breaking seven-game scoring run in the 1993/94 season. 'It was quite a contrast, going so long without a goal and then not being able to stop scoring,' he says. 'The team got a lot of confidence and started winning games, which got us away from the relegation battle.' That season culminated with an FA Cup Final appearance, our first in 24 years, and though it ended with disappointment, it remains a highlight of many Blues careers that day. 'I remember watching FA Cup Finals at home as a youngster and the memories of the day will always stay with me, the scoreline wasn't a fair reflection of the game,' he recalls.
