Andreas Christensen played the full 90 minutes for Denmark, with the second leg due to take place on Tuesday. Czech Republic, as hosts of the finals, don't have to play Under-21 qualifiers. Instead they won a friendly 1-0 away in Ukraine with Tomas Kalas playing 90 minutes at right-back. Ruben Loftus-Cheek was on target for England Under-19s in a 3-0 European Championship qualifier win over Belarus. England Under-21s, with Steve Holland as assistant to head coach Gareth Southgate, will compete in next summer's finals having beaten Croatia in their two-legged play-off. England were 2-1 up after the first leg at home but in today's second leg needed a good save from Jack Butland to keep out an early close-range shot from Mario Pasalic, the Chelsea summer signing who is currently on-loan at Elche in Spain. Southgate's side led 3-1 on aggregate on nine minutes when Leicester's Liam Moore escaped Pasalic to volley in a corner and were well in control of the tie. However before the break, Croatia made the most of a long ball forward to level the half-time score at 1-1, Marko Livaja who also scored in the first leg on target. Pasalic created a very presentable opening early in the second half which was not taken, before he was replaced on 66 minutes. Derby's Will Hughes rolled in a shot for England's second away goal after 73 minutes and the tie, at 4-2, was beyond Croatia's reach. Lewis Baker, in the England Under-21 squad for the first time, was as in the first leg an unused sub. Patrick Bamford was not involved. Two Chelsea loan players, Matej Delac and Stipe Perica, were on the Croatia bench. There was success for Andreas Christensen and Denmark who left it very late to see off Iceland. Their home leg had ended 0-0 and that was the score as the second leg reached 90 minutes. Then Denmark broke the deadlock and despite Iceland levelling from a penalty three minutes into stoppage time, the away goal was sufficient. The 18-year-old Chelsea defender played the whole game. A bad week for Dutch international football continued when their Under-21s could not overcome the odds in a high-scoring second leg in Portugal. Nathan Ake scored twice after the break but the Netherlands went into the game 2-0 down and despite nine goals shared by the sides in the second match, were never ahead in the tie. The Dutch, without injured skipper Marco van Ginkel, equalised twice in the first half today to go in 2-2 at half-time but Porto's Ricardo made it 5-2 on aggregate shortly after the restart. Ake netted from a corner on 64 minutes but Ricardo scored again two minutes later. Both sides found the net once more with Ake the last scorer, from the penalty spot with a minute left on the clock. The final aggregate score was 7-4 to Portugal. There was also dramatic disappointment for France Under-21s. Missing Kurt Zouma who came off in the first leg with an injury, they couldn't protect the 2-0 advantage they took into their game in Sweden. The tie was level by half-time with Sweden going ahead on aggregate on 71 minutes. However France appeared to have grabbed the all-important away goal on 87 minutes, only for the home side to score from a corner a minute later, so running out 4-1 winners on the night and 4-3 on aggregate. Italy, Germany and Serbia have also qualified for the Euro finals which are in Czech Republic in June with the draw taking place on 6 November. The Czech Under-21 side automatically qualify and they are involved this week in a tournament held at home.
