Internationals: Young Blues in Euro win
Thu 7 May 2015
Two Chelsea Academy players helped England Under-17s get off to a winning
start in defence of the European Under-17 Championship.
Left-back Jay Dasilva, part of the Chelsea teams that recently won the
UEFA Youth League and the FA Youth Cup, played the whole of a 1-0 win
against Italy, with schoolboy striker Ike Ugbo introduced in the second
half. He had a shot into the side-netting.
The winning goal was scored by Tottenham's Marcus Edwards shortly after he
came on at half-time. England next play on Sunday against the Netherlands,
before their final group game in the Bulgaria-hosted tournament on
Wednesday against Republic of Ireland.
England won the Championship in Malta last year with Izzy Brown and
Dominic Solanke in the side.

England Under-17s held by Holland
Mon 11 May 2015
Jay Dasilva and Ike Ugbo featured in England's 1-1 draw with Holland in
the European Under-17 Championship on Sunday in their second group stage
game of the tournament.
John Peacock's side are hoping to retain the trophy they won last year -
when Dominic Solanke and Izzy Brown were heavily involved - and got off to
a good start last Thursday when they defeated Italy 1-0.
Dasilva played the whole of that game and again featured throughout
yesterday's draw with the Dutch.
England took the lead midway through the first half, courtesy of an own
goal, but Holland levelled after the break when they converted a
harshly-awarded penalty.
Like against the Italians, Ugbo came off the bench and the striker came
close to giving England the lead soon after with a powerful header.
It finished 1-1 though and England will start their final group game,
against Ireland on Wednesday, one point clear at the top of their
qualification group. A draw will guarantee their progression to the last
eight.

England Under-17s qualify for quarter-finals
Wed 13 May 2015
England Under-17s, including Chelsea youngsters Jay Dasilva and Ike Ugbo,
have progressed to the last eight of the European Championships at that
level following a deserved 1-0 win against the Republic of Ireland today
(Wednesday).
Dasilva continued at left-back for the Young Lions' final group stage
game, with Ugbo introduced into the attack for his first start at the
tournament, held in Bulgaria.
England only needed a point to guarantee progression but picked up all
three thanks to Marcus Edwards's goal with 10 minutes remaining. Ugbo, who
fired a good first-half chance wide, was replaced immediately after a
dominant England took the lead. Dasilva completed the game and is yet to
miss a minute of tournament action.
England, who are hoping to retain the trophy having won it last year, will
now face Russia in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Young England knocked out
Sat 16 May 2015
An England Under-17 side featuring two Chelsea youngsters were beaten in
the quarter-final of the European Championship at that level today
(Saturday).
Jay Dasilva (pictured top) started, as he has every game in this
tournament, and striker Ike Ugbo came off the bench with a little over 10
minutes remaining as England searched for a leveller against a Russia side
that had taken the lead before half-time.
Nathan Holland had a penalty saved before Russia went ahead, and after
they had an incisive run from Dasilva created a chance for Marcus Edwards
to equalise but he fired wide.
England had more opportunities to restore parity after the break but
couldn't find a way through. Russia then had a penalty saved with five
minutes to go and England finished the game with 10 men after a very late
red card.
John Peacock's young side will now play fellow losing quarter-finalists
Spain in a play-off match on Tuesday, with the winners earning a place at
the Under-17 World Cup in Chile this summer.

England Under-17s qualify for World Cup
Tue 19 May 2015
England Under-17s defeated Spain in a penalty shoot-out today (Tuesday) to
earn a place at the World Cup later this year, with Ike Ugbo converting
his spot-kick.
The Young Lions were knocked out of the European Under-17 Championships on
Saturday at the quarter-final stage but had a one-off play-off game
against Spain to earn one of the final spots at the World Cup in Chile.
Jay Dasilva started for John Peacock's side and forced a save early on in
what proved a tight encounter.
Ugbo was introduced off the bench with 15 minutes remaining and stepped up
to take a penalty in the shootout after the game finished goalless.
England's late sub keeper, Will Huffer, made the decisive save, so there
will be a place for the Young Lions at the forthcoming World Cup, due to
start in October.
