The blown diffuser, which channels exhaust air over the rear of the car to improve downforce, has been a hot topic for much of this year's Championship. With talk of banning it, not banning it and then only doing so for one race, the British GP which was won by Ferrari, Newey concedes that the blown diffuser has been integral to Red Bull's success this season. And although there are some who believe the Bulls will dominate again next season, their technical guru reckons their efforts may be undone by the 2012 ban. "Banning the blown diffuser is a big change," Newey told The Telegraph. "It has a fundamental affect on the aerodynamics of the car which then knocks on through the car. It is an enormous challenge to stay at the top. "The RB7 was designed pretty much from the outset with that exhaust location. "Everyone else, possibly with the exception of Ferrari but probably without exception, copied what we did.
