Mychael Urban digs in to this week's burning questions By Mychael Urban / MLB.com Could you please explain why the A's seem so anxious to move Joe Blanton? He is only 27. He leads the staff in innings pitched (and has been right around 200 innings the past two seasons) and complete games. His ERA is under 4.00, a good number in the American League. He has the team's only shutout, and he nearly always keeps the team in the game. Seems to me they should be seriously considering signing him to a long-term deal to keep him in Oakland rather than trading him. I realize he has some trade value, but strong, steady young pitchers with numbers such as his don't grow on trees. I wouldn't say the A's are eager to trade Blanton, for all the reasons you outlined.
